Still More On The Debate

by: BranfordBoy

Fri Jul 07, 2006 at 08:26:03 AM EDT

Angry. Petulant. Self-important. Nasty. These are some of the words that come to mind as I think back on Joe Lieberman in last night's debate.

There are other voices this morning after:

• There's commentary and an interview with John Hartwell at ConnecticutBLOG.

• The Independent's Paul Bass was there for the post-debate spinning.

• There's a poll for you to take on the front page of the Courant. (Look for it in the small print in the box about the debate.) Their TV critic was downbeat.

• This Kos Diarist does a good job of covering Friday morning's Connecticut press coverage, so I don't have to. (Whoopee!)

Spazeboy has video of local news coverage, which was on balance pretty godawful.

Politics TV has a whole raft of debate video, including the whole enchilada.

Rolling Stone weighs in on, among other things, Joe's "non-Kosher defense of pork."

• And even the usually Lieb-leaning Connecticut Local Politics has a good post-mortem -- with yet another poll for you to take.

More below the fold.

BranfordBoy :: Still More On The Debate
Here's an update on the pre-debate demo I told you about yesterday.

(From an email. Used without permission. But I don't think that will bother my correspondent.)

[Our] protest didn't get much done, but we did have a few good moments. Maybe I'll write about it tomorrow, but imagine Keith and I, watching the debate in Best Buy, (yep), spread out on a nice leather couch, in front of a $4800 TV, (plasma), complete with surround sound.

And so we're sitting there in the air conditioning completely engrossed, and customers and employees keep coming by, with the most frequent comment being, "Oooh, I hate that guy." One of the employees was concerned about us commandeering the big screen, and about the intrusion of politics in the very
capitalistic Big Box. So the store manager comes over. Keith offers her a "Kiss" button, and she hangs out. One of her first questions was whether Ned was married!

On second thought (0.00 / 0)
I can't get the Page 1 PDF file to load, but that IS the correct link from the Courant website.

Yeah, but (4.00 / 1)
Doesn't beat...

If the primary were held today, based on yard signs, and had a run-off, the run-off would be between Lamont and Coldwell Banker.

LMAO.

[ Parent ]
Thanks for the love... (0.00 / 0)
But can you change that Lieb-leaning line before CGG and I get our progressive credentials pulled?

More funniness to come...

Gabe, you guys are great... (0.00 / 0)
Is it true that Genghis is going to register as a Democrat to vote against this stupid effing war?

If he demonstrated some real heart by doing something like that, I'd be impressed.

Otherwise a lot of us are thinking of writing him off as an arm-chair quarterback/ivory-tower academic....

I Agree with Gabe (0.00 / 0)
Gabe and I are anything but Lieb-leaning!  And Ned seems to be growing on Genghis as well.  The commenters accuse CTLP of being a shill for each campaign in about equal numbers though.

[ Parent ]
It's a shame Genghis lets (0.00 / 0)
Turfgirl post her lowly attacks. It reflects badly on the lot of you. (and I'm not talking about her being critical of Lamont. But she sure hasn't embraced Lieberman publicly, which makes you wonder where she is coming from.)

[ Parent ]
Actually, (0.00 / 0)
Turfgrrrl at CT Local Politics had a nasty anti-Ned post, but I'm sorry to say that my inner bitch came to the forefront in my comments.
Must be close to a full moon.

Mine too (0.00 / 0)
And I don't even have an inner bitch

Got a personal call from the Lieberman Campaign (0.00 / 0)
earlier today asking if we (DTC) had any plans for poll watching and get-out-the-vote activities for Primary Day that they could "tap into" and I said yes, absolutely. However, the caller didn't leave any contact info.

So why, the day after the debate, is one of the campaign staff calling asking about Primary Day activities? Especially for a town that was 100% Lamont at the convention?

eh?

Horgan speaks his mind (0.00 / 0)
Denis Horgan really needs to stop beating around the bush!

Debating for his life, Lieberman showed exactly how much he’s learned by being so palsy-walsy with Bush & Co., joining All the President’s Men so effectively.

Attack. Dance around and accuse the opponent of doing exactly what you have been doing. Be mean and boorish, even when you have earned your lapdog bones by being a fawning, tea cup holder for the snarling Dick Cheney and the ilk.

He’ll show his true colors to keep a job when he hid behind pastel colors to fawn and kowtow with the Republicans. He talks about the politics of hate while practicing it exactly, and his Swift Boaters carry the rhetoric to Coulter-levels of assaults from the alleys that no honest soul dare walk anymore. Bush heavy.

For a guy who’s been around as long as he has, the debate showed us a lot, taught us a lot. He’s shown the true colors: He’s OK with thousands of dead people if it means keeping a job.
