Sean Smith Accuses Lamont of . . . Statesmanship!

by: BranfordBoy

Grasping at straws yet again, Sean Smith is trying to make something of the fact that Ned Lamont made supportive remarks about one of two Democratic proposals on Iraq.
BranfordBoy :: Sean Smith Accuses Lamont of . . . Statesmanship!
From the Courant:

His position on Iraq is confusing at best," said Sean Smith, Lieberman's campaign manager.

On the defensive for months about Lieberman's support for the war, his campaign would like to turn the war into a test of the character of the two candidates.

"Joe Lieberman has a position on Iraq that people know. It may not be popular, but he continues to hold that position because it is what he believes," Smith said.

Since Lamont plans to work with his colleagues in the Democratic Party in the Senate and work toward crafting a solid, consistent and constructive policy on Iraq and the broader question of American involvement in the Middle East... in short, because Ned Lamont is a (gasp, shudder) statesman, Sean Smith thinks the voters of Connecticut should reject him in favor of a man who wants to continue pouring American blood and capital down a rat hole with no end in sight.

But Sean's right about Lieberman's character. Lieberman is consistent. He consistently urges doing the same thing over and over, hoping for different results. And that is the definition of insanity.

Maybe Sean is flattered by Ann Coulter's praise of Lieberman (0.00 / 0)
How could any young man working for a Repuke-lite Democratic senator not fall for that harpy.

"Steadfast and resolute" [trans. pigheaded] versus conciliatory, someone willing to compromise on his core beliefs if it will help move things toward a swifter resolution.

I support the Levin-Reed Amendment on U.S. Policy in Iraq, and I urge Senator Lieberman to do the same.

It represents the minimum needed, but will build a Democratic coalition to establish and stick to a plan to end the war.

And of Lieberman's/Smith's opining that Lamont is wavering?

"I would have supported them both, Lamont said. "You've heard me say before, I think it's time to get our front line troops out of harm's way."

Here's a proposed LTTE I sent the Courant today (4.00 / 3)
"[Ned Lamont’s] position on Iraq is confusing at best," said Sean Smith, Lieberman's campaign manager. [“Lamont Wavers, Rival Camp Says”, Mark Pazniokas, June 23, 2006].

There’s nothing confusing about Ned Lamont’s position on Iraq.  He was practicing real consensus building by trying to persuade Sen. Lieberman to agree to one of the Democratic proposals to force the Bush Administration to change from their “lie and die” course in Iraq.  The Levin-Reed amendment, while weak, was a start to get Democrats united on changing course in Iraq.

What did Sen. Lieberman do?  He turned “Benedict Arnold” again and lead the Republican attack against both Democratic proposals on changing course in Iraq.  What did Lieberman’s fellow Democrats do?  They shunned our senator and his Republican cohorts by leaving the senate chamber during Lieberman’s speech.

It’s very clear that Sen. Lieberman supports President Bush’s “lie and die” policy in Iraq and that policy is not supported by the majority of Connecticut Democrats and fellow Americans.  But it’s supported by Lieberman’s newfound supporter, hate-spewing pundit Ann Coulter, who recently advised Sen. Lieberman to join the Republican Party.
