Can Sen. Blumenthal please explain why he wants war with Iran?

Majority of senators back new Iran sanctions, pressuring Obama

A majority of senators now back new sanctions on Iran, complicating the Obama administration's efforts to avoid a vote on legislation it claims could derail nuclear talks.

Fifty-three lawmakers have now signed on to the measure from Sens. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), according to the latest count from the Library of Congress.

The bipartisan bill had 26 co-sponsors when it was introduced on Dec. 19 and has quickly been gaining traction since then; it drew another seven before the recess and 20 more this week.

The bill calls for new sanctions if Iran reneges on its commitments under an interim deal reached last year or fails to agree to a final bill that would ban it from enriching uranium. The White House has threatened to veto the measure.

Further adding to the pressure: Some five dozen conservative experts and former officials wrote to congressional leaders on Thursday urging them to set tough parameters for any final deal with Iran, The Daily Beast reports. Signatories include former Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Norm Coleman (R-Minn.). The House voted 400-20 to slap additional sanctions on Iran's energy sector in July and is expected to easily pass a new sanctions bill if it clears the Senate.

This bill is completely unneccessary and shows to the third world that the USA can not be trusted.  The current sanctions got Iran to the negotiating table.  That was their purpose, now please let President Obama and Sec. of State Kerry do the tough job of diplomacy.  If talks fail, then the Admin will recommend to Congress what is best to do.

I'm very disappointed that Sen. Blumenthal has decided to be a puppet of AIPAC and the neo-cons of the Israeli government.  Both want war with Iran, but the American people don't.

Please remove you name as co-sponsor from this bad bill, Sen. Blumenthal.

Huff Post--White House Dares Democratic Senators Pushing Iran Sanctions To Admit They Want War (4.00 / 2)

White House Dares Democratic Senators Pushing Iran Sanctions To Admit They Want War
WASHINGTON -- The White House on Thursday challenged a group of senators to admit they are working to push the country toward war with Iran, upping the tension between the administration and Senate advocates of tough new sanctions amid nuclear negotiations.

"If certain members of Congress want the United States to take military action, they should be up front with the American public and say so," Bernadette Meehan, National Security Council spokeswoman, said in a statement. "Otherwise, it's not clear why any member of Congress would support a bill that possibly closes the door on diplomacy and makes it more likely that the United States will have to choose between military options or allowing Iran's nuclear program to proceed."

The "certain members" the White House is referring to are led by Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), who is pushing legislation, backed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, that would tighten sanctions on the Iranian regime despite the ongoing negotiations.

Advocates of a peace deal with Iran warn that toughening sanctions now strengthens the hand of hard-liners in Iran who can argue the U.S. is not negotiating in good faith.

Ok Sen. Blumenthal, what is your answer to the White House?

Haven't you and your fellow pro-new-Iran-sanctions Democratic senators learned anything from the Iraq War debacle?  President Obama has and is trying to forge a peace.  Give him a chance.  There will be plenty of time to smack additional sanctions on Iran if talks fail because of Iran.

It might well be gettin close to the time (0.00 / 0)

At the rate things are going we may one day see two nut jobs in Wooster Square polling people on who they want for Senator: Dick Blumenthal or a real Democrat.
