Congresswoman Esty thinks you're stupid

Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty's latest explaination regarding her refusal to allow public hearings more pathetic than her original excuse.
Asked about the issue of gun control and security, Esty said, "I need to figure out a way to hold public sessions, asking for comment in a way that's safe for the public. I want people in the area to have priority and meetings that aren't 12 hours long. We're groping for what to do as a country, and I want an opportunity to hear thoughts and questions without people having to stake out positions."

Wait, wait, I thought Congresswoman Esty said that she barred the public from her meetings so elected officials could feel comfortable being candid with her without the public knowing what they said?

This latest laughable excuse from the winner by default Congresswoman is an insult to the public's intelligence.

First, the state's general assambly held a post-Sandy Hook public hearing at Newtown High School last week without any problem.

Second, during the health care fiasco, Congressman Chris Murphy and Congressman Jim Himes held several very contentious PUBLIC HEARINGS on the subject. Although emotions were high at those events (which included your truly being bombmarded with racial slurs at a Murphy event in Simsbury), Murphy and Himes did not shy away from allowing the public an opportunity to speak (with both congressman going as far as  speaking to members of the public who didn't agree with their viewpoint after their meetings concluded).

Finally, it seems like our winner by default Congresswoman fails to realize that she is suppose to represent the people in her district...which includes being available to THE PUBLIC. For a member of Congress whose district includes Sandy Hook to exclude the public from an important topic as gun control is a disgrace and the media has an obligation to condemn her actions.

Is it 2014 yet?
