Joementum turns to Syria

by: ctblogger

The latest from you know who...

The United States should arm and assist Syrian opposition forces working to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Sunday.

Lieberman, who chairs the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, said the Pentagon is putting plans together and that it is time to "help the brave Syrian freedom fighters."

"Medical help first, and then I'd give them training. I'd give them communications equipment, and then ultimately, I'd give them weapons," Lieberman said on CNN's State of the Union.
The Obama administration has repeatedly called for Assad to step aside in Syria, but has shied away from any direct intervention, such as arming opposition forces.

"The encouraging news is the Pentagon is putting together plans to make that happen if the president decides to order it," Lieberman said.

As everyone knows, I'm not a big fan of LIEberman but when it comes to the developments in Syria, does he have a point?

What a PUTZ (4.00 / 1)
Like there aren't enough arms in the middle east!

On top of that he doesn't even realize Al quiada is one of the major forces in the uprising in Syria and would probably end up with a good percentage of any arms the USA provides to Syrian rebels.

Joe goes to war (0.00 / 0)
Wait a minute, let me check my blackberry/dance card...I believe I have a space betwwe Iran and Pakistan for a quick war in Syria.   I'll get back to you

Lieberman is a war addict (0.00 / 0)
He's got no credibility on whether we should intervene or not.  Remember, none of his kids will be going into harm's way.

Initially the Syrian insurgents didn't want our help, but on Chris Hayes' show over the weekend, Chris had a Syrian advocate on who is in contact with one of the main insurgent groups and he said that they now want help.  In light of the Libyan revolution, I'll trust the Obama Admin to make the right call on our involvement in Syria.

It seems (0.00 / 0)
the Syrian population is divided on this issue. The ones that are against Assad claim he sold the country to the Russians, stating that there are several Russian citizens in the country and Russian flags elsewhere, but it appears that the majority of the population is pro-Assad. The entry below was copied from someone who claims to be in Syria.

Good you mention media black out ! The USA and EU accuse us of not letting the media in: but at the beginning Al JAzeera and Al Arabiya were there on the ground and very fast we saw that they were exaggerating, blowing up the events and ignoring the most important: than we found out that they were part of the conspiracy, the plot, to spread lies, fabrications, false witnesses, fake videos etc...so they were kicked out.

The truth will never reach the USA through the western media which are part of the psychological warfare campaign: it is a war of the media : A MEDIA WAR first ! ... The USA and teh west know they have failed in their plot, due to the unity of the Syrian people and the love for their president.. So they have increased the sanctions and boycotts... we can no longer use visa, master ect.... ( good if you ask me lol) ... but just yesterday, the usa and canada have cut of the Syrian channel Addounia TV which is reporting the truth and nothing but the truth: so now you cannot watch this channel in north america and Europe : nice democratic move right ! They do not want you to see the truth, the real pictures , the real videos ..the real confessions, witnesses... We do have foreign media on the ground: Russia Today (RT) , Press TV , Al MAnar (hezballah) , and others .

I am glad that you say you have a media blackout : here in Syria we do not have a media blackout : everyone here, and i mena every appartment house, villa, has has a satellite antenna on teh roof: when you arrive by plane ythe first thing you notice flying over a city m village, town, isolated villa house in the middle of nowhere, even bedouin tents , is millions of satellite dishes spread like mushrooms all over the places. Everyone here has access to all the programs you watch. We know you ! what you see and hear. We see the lies on the main stream media, we see them : why do you think we are outragged ....we see cnn, fox, bbc, france 24, all the arab traitor channels, nbc, abc, ....all of them and more , we see all europe: everyone here has more than 2000 channels: still we have not been brainwashed : why ...secret ! LOL"
