Lieberman Keeps Pushing His Dumb FEMA Plan

by: BranfordBoy

Mon May 29, 2006 at 08:23:22 AM EDT

With another season of monster storms bearing down on us, Joe Lieberman is busy touting his cockamamie plan to save FEMA by destroying it.

We are not rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic...

When they say they aren't rearranging the decks chairs on the Titanic....they're rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

BranfordBoy :: Lieberman Keeps Pushing His Dumb FEMA Plan
The op-ed piece in today's New Haven Register (no link, of course) is by turns egregiously self-serving and reflexively defensive. Lines like...

When I helped create the Department of Homeland Security...

... are followed by ...

Many of our critics hark back to the days when James Lee Witt led FEMA as an independent agency.

Well, duh!

But Joe, after 18 years of swilling that good old inside-the-beltway Kool-Aid, knows that the answer to bureaucratic failure is more bureaucracy.

The defensiveness is not without its notes of condescension, either.

Americans must understand that the current debate is not about shuffiling bureaucratic boxes...

That's our Joe. Looking out for the best interests of those low-information voters he hopes will return him to office for six more years of failed "leadership."

I hope Lamont creams Lieberman on this issue (0.00 / 0)
The reason FEMA worked so well under James Lee Witt was because he was competent and told President Clinton he would only hire competent emergency management people, not political cronies.  Witt would not hire a boob from the Arabian Horse Association.

Lieberman aided and abetted the Bush Administrations policy to "drown the government in a bathtub" by employing political cronies in agencies, like FEMA, agencies that really needed experts to help the American people suffering from calamities.

Imagine anyone (0.00 / 0)
saying "When I helped create the Department of Homeland Security" as if thats something to be proud of?

Lieberman is so out of touch with reality he probably thinks the respomse to Katrina was a good thing.

I didn't realize you could get Dementia from just a Kiss.
