Meet Chris Dodd (D-CT) versus Chris Dodd (MPAA)

Oh the hypocrisy!

Chris Dodd (D-CT), August 2010:

Sen. Chris Dodd says he still doesn't know what he'll do come January 2011, when, for the first time in 36 years, he will no longer be a member of Congress. But he has ruled out one option.

"No lobbying, no lobbying," Dodd said in a recent interview. That Dodd would forgo a trip through Washington's "revolving door," using his policy and political expertise--and a thick Rolodex--to launch a new career in the influence industry, may come as a surprise.

Chris Dodd (MPAA) Jan 2012:
BALDWIN: And I think -- I think, you know, a lot of these folks agree that that is illegal, but you know, you avowed, sir, that you wouldn't become a lobbyist when you left the Senate, and here you are, you know, lobbying for the movie industry. How do you explain that?

DODD: Well, no, we're trying to talk about a position that's very important. This isn't just the movie industry. As I mentioned, there are all sorts of businesses, 19 million people in this country who work in intellectual property and copyright areas. And their jobs are at risk. There are people every single day going after other products other than film or television.

Nice to see that the former Senator is using his dodging the question skills in his new capacity as head shill for the film industry.

Someone should ask Lieberman if he intends (0.00 / 0)
to cash in as well? My guess is that Joe has way too much integrity to join the circuit. lolz!

worser and worser (0.00 / 0)
Chris Dodd seems to have made some new friends over at Faux News:

"Candidly, those who count on quote 'Hollywood' for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who's going to stand up for them when their job is at stake," Dodd told Fox News. "Don't ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don't pay any attention to me when my job is at stake."

Dodd, who became CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America after leaving the Senate in 2011, noted the movie "Avatar" was stolen by online pirates 21 million times. Such acts, he said, threaten to decimate his industry.

"Avatar" was made by 20th Century Fox which, like Fox News Channel, is owned by NewsCorp. Rupert Murdoch, chairman and CEO of NewsCorp, has also been outspoken in promoting two pieces of anti-piracy legislation, the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act, known respectively as "SOPA" and "PIPA," to protect copyrighted material.

Interesting example (0.00 / 0)
Avatar
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt04...

Cost to make: $237,000,000 (est.)
Gross (as of 2 months ago): $2,782,275,172

Profit: $2.5 Billion
Return on investment: 1174%

Let's -- generously -- assume that the cited figure is correct, and that each pirated copy would have added $10 to the profit of this film. That's $210 million, which would have represented an additional 7% profit.

Investigate Dodd for bribery? (4.00 / 2)
The public has started a petition asking the White House to investigate comments made by MPAA CEO Chris Dodd a few days ago on Fox News. Closing a tumultuous week of wide protest against PIPA and SOPA - two MPAA backed anti-piracy bills - Dodd threatened to stop the cash-flow to politicians who dare to take a stand against pro-Hollywood legislation. Clear bribery, the petition claims, and already thousands agree.

That just got out of the slammer. Combine this with what Dodd said.
