MALLOY TO FLEECE KNITTERS WITH YARN TAX

by: nolopro

Mon Feb 28, 2011 at 12:10:57 PM EST

( - promoted by ctblogger)

He's out to tax yarn and yoga, but not golf and country clubs and karate classes? And they wouldn't just be hitting people with the current 6 percent rate. Malloy wants to raise the rate to 6.35 percent.

and this comes at a time when small yarn shops are closing all over the state. How is this supposed to help small businesses?

Why does Malloy hate grandmothers? (0.00 / 0)
Isn't knitting the proverbial task done by grandmothers?

I'm no granny (0.00 / 0)
most of the knitters I know are under 40

maybe he was forced to wear heinous christmas sweaters every holiday season?

all I know is.. .all the local knitting stores I know of are hanging on by a thread. This is NOT HELPING

we're going to all be forced to buy cheap wool from Joanns if this keeps up

If only they would tax the yarns we hear in the media (4.00 / 1)
What me worry! My wife is a quilter.

because Connecticut voters count: http://www.CTVotersCount.org

LOL we'd all be getting $$$ from the state (0.00 / 0)
in that case

PS Many yarn stores also carry quilting supplies

Let's reframe it (0.00 / 0)
RT @USuncutNYC: RT @twithappens34, in discussing the national scene, says:
We don't have a budget crisis. We've a refusal to levy adequate taxes on those that can afford it crisis.

And, BFG, with regard to media "spinning" and yarns, pretty soon what your wife does will be known as an "undercover operation"... (heh, sorry, I'll shut up now...couldn't resist...)

How about taxing the "yarns" politicians make? (0.00 / 0)
That would solve the budget crisis of every state.

The new Gov sure as hell isn't taking my phone calls, but for those of you that were on Candidate Malloy's call sheets, are you able to reach him or his administration on any of this craziness that's in the budget package?

and ask him WHY IS HE PROTECTING THE COUNTRY CLUB SET (0.00 / 0)
and what does he have against knitting and yoga???

I can't say I've tried... (0.00 / 0)
If you're on a sinking ship it just seems silly to complain about getting wet trying to patch-up the hole. The budget generally looks like the least worst option to me. Well I'm not a big fan of the big cut to UConn, but I talked to my delegation to the CT legislature about that. Maybe your state rep or senator would be more receptive. Also since they have votes in the legislature needed to approve the budget they might also have some more sway on it as well. ;)

I don't have the genius solution to fixing this state. However I often wonder where these mysterious rich people from Fairfield County that may or may not leave the state are in this conversation. I feel like we often don't hear from them until they try and get the GOP nomination for US Senate. I am also thoroughly amused that Chris Christie thinks he is going to entice them into New Jersey with their higher taxes.

is either a one-man walking explanation for global warming or a one-man refilling station for blimps.

I report, you decide.
