Today's poll from Quinnipiac shows Richard Blumenthal still leading Linda McSteroids...but his lead has shrunk by three points among likely voters (49-46 percent).
"With five weeks to go, the Connecticut Senate race is very close. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is ahead by only a statistically insignificant 3 points. Blumenthal has to be concerned about Linda McMahon's momentum. He can hear her footsteps as she closes in on him," said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz, PhD.
"McMahon clearly is capitalizing on the anger that one-third of voters are feeling toward the federal government." Quinnipiac University Poll/September 28, 2010 - page 2
"But McMahon has to be concerned that voters are still divided on her," Dr. Schwartz added. "There continues to be a big gender gap, as we've seen in other states such a New York and Pennsylvania. Women are going with the Democrat and men are siding with the Republican.
"Usually debates don't make much of a difference, but in a race this close next month's debates could be a game changer."
While there is much to digest in this poll I'll just start by saying the thing that Democrats have said privately for weeks...Blumenthal is running a almost non-existent campaign.
The fact that a person with such high favorables is leading a moronic GOP candidate (whose favorables dropped three points since the last poll) by only 3 points speaks volumes about the type of campaign Blumenthal is running...an inept campaign that's too afraid to criticize an opponent who made her millions broadcasting sex and violence to children while turning a blind eye to the effect steroids had on her company.
And yeah, yeah, I know the Blumenthal campaign released their internal data that shows them up by 12 points and yeah, yeah, I read what Nate Silverand what First Read had to say but that's not the point. The fact of the matter is that Blumenthal is not campaigning hard enough and has allowed a candidate with NO credibility close the gap.
When asked about Blumenthal's ad campaign, a third of those polled said "not enough."
It's simple. With five weeks to go, Blumenthal has to roll up his sleeves and work for every vote...that includes taking his laughable joke of a Republican candidate head on.
What's your opinion on the state of Blumenthal's campaign?
I'll have more on the poll below the fold later...
