CT 02: Courtney "Stood up" ad highlights votes against "taxpayer-funded bailouts of Wall Street"

by: ctblogger

Mon Sep 27, 2010 at 12:57:12 PM EDT

Following in the "independent" theme of Jim Himes and Chris Murphy, today Congressman Joe Courtney released his first TV ad in which he highlights his votes against the bailouts of Wall Street.
Press Release:

Congressman Joe Courtney today released his first ad of the election cycle, entitled "Stood Up."  In the spot, Courtney explains his vote against taxpayer-funded bailouts of Wall Street firms whose recklessness crashed our economy.

"Here in eastern Connecticut, small businesses and families don't ask for them," Courtney says in the ad.  "And that's why I stood up to both parties - and two presidents - to vote against the Wall Street bailout.

"It's my job to look out for you, not Washington or Wall Street."

This is a pretty effective ad as it simply reinforces Courtney's long established stance against the bailout bills proposed during the past (Bush) and current (Obama) administration...and he didn't have to appear on FOXNews to make his point.

Yeah, well I kind of throws Murphy (0.00 / 0)
And Himes under the proverbial bus, seeing as they did the right thing in voting with the President, whereas Courtney chickened out.

I imagine Healy will be sending out a press release o. He next 24hours.

Sorry for the typos, still haven't got the iPhone (0.00 / 0)
Touch-typing to a better level.

Just watched the ad, and "ouch!" I guess Murphy and Himes voted for "Washington and Wall Street" instead of your and my best interests?

In hindsight... (0.00 / 0)

I believe Courtney cast the right vote. So are you saying that because Joe voted different from Murphy and Himes he can't talk about it? That seems a little too "lock step" for me. Why do you say Murphy and Himes did the right thing?... because Obama, Dodd, Geitner and Summers were for the bailouts?  Hardly a convincing argument.

But let justice roll down like waters...Amos 5:24a

the Murphy / Himes thing is real, but... (0.00 / 0)
IMO, TARP and Dodd / Frank were the two biggest votes of the past two years... bigger than HCR and stimulus.  If I were Joe, I'd be touting this vote bigtime regardless of the votes cast by Murphy or Himes.

Joe makes me proud (4.00 / 2)
I have never had more pride in my Congressman than I do for Joe Courtney - and that includes Congressmen who represented me and for whom I have worked.

This vote was and is a big reason why.

I was completely against the bailout and remain so. I personally think it the single biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the American public by our government.   I debated voting for President at all in 2008 because of Obama's vote (I did vote for him).

Instead of the bailouts, we should have started prosecuting. So instead of sailing on megayachts, they should be behind bars - mortgage originators, mortgage bond industry, executives of big banks, AIG, appraisers, credit rating agencies, government agency heads and more. Hey, since corporations are now "people" under the law, they should be help criminally responsible for criminal acts

I agree with you (0.00 / 0)
and Obama should have followed FDR's lead by taking over the banks, and bringing in new management and regulations to restore fiscal soundness to these institutions.
