Momentum

(Here's an update from the Ned Lamont campaign... - promoted by ctblogger)

Cross-posted at NedLamont.com.  I am proud to work for Ned Lamont's campaign for Governor.

With five days left until the primary, I wanted to give everyone a quick update of where Ned's race stands.

Ned and Dan recently completed their 29th debate and Ned's performance is getting great reviews:

This viewer has to hand it to Ned Lamont, who seemed move lively, energetic and full of ideas than Dan Malloy, who appeared almost somnolent at times.

Our field team is spread across Connecticut, and doing fantastic work.  Over the last several weeks, they have recruited more than 3,000 volunteers, and together they have made more than 2 million calls and knocked on more than 150,000 doors.

And the results are showing.  Despite two weeks of constant negative attacks by our opponent, Ned still leads in the recently released Quinnipiac poll 45-40, and Democratic voters believe Ned has the right positions on key issues, the right plan to turn the economy around, and the right character to be governor. And by a spread of 46-29, Democratic voters believe Ned is the best candidate to beat the Republicans in November and take back the governor's office for the first time in more than 20 years.

Every day, as each volunteer comes into our regional field offices, as we identify each voter, as we knock on each door and place each lawn sign, our momentum is growing:

Gabe :: Momentum
If you want Ned fighting for us for the next four years, we need your help for the next five days.  Please click here to volunteer.

And if you need information on how and when to vote, or where your polling place is, please check our website.

Thanks for all that you do!

Gabe

I am proud to work for Ned Lamont's campaign for Governor.

Bah....Ned Lamont can't even make a decent cup of coffee! (0.00 / 0)

Everybody wang chung tonight! (0.00 / 0)
I miss that song!

I remember they played that the night of the primary victory (4.00 / 1)
one of the best moments of my life - and still probably the hardest I have ever worked!

[ Parent ]
This pic is actually from 2006 (4.00 / 1)
It was a great parade in Newtown IIRC

[ Parent ]
funny though (0.00 / 0)
because there is a Blumenthal sign too :)

[ Parent ]
Are you saying it isn't from 2006? (4.00 / 3)
My husband is in it. It is from 2006.

[ Parent ]
(not to mention . . . .) (4.00 / 1)
. . . that Teddy is taller than his Dad now!

[ Parent ]
oh no - those are definitely the Lamont for senate signs (0.00 / 0)
I still have the one that John Edwards signed ........

Blumenthal was running for AG re-elect, it's just funny to see them together back then too.

Where is Malloy's Campaign? (0.00 / 0)
It would be nice if some of the pro-Malloy contributors to this site called Malloy headquarters and urged a campaign representative to post this kind of article here.

Actually, Dan himself has a MLN account.

If Dan were to actually show up here (0.00 / 0)
he would be asked a few pointed questions, most of which he really doesn't want to answer.

With less than a week left, most "activists" have made up their minds. Since a large percentage of this site consists of activists, coming here and addressing us is not going to really help his campaign and has far more downside than upside for him.

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.

Well... (0.00 / 0)
A Malloy representative wouldn't have to answer questions if he/she didn't want to.

And it might be a nice gesture of support to the Malloy "activists" who have been so, well, active on this site making a case for their candidate, if someone from the Malloy campaign showed they were actually paying attention.

[ Parent ]
that's not the strategery (4.00 / 2)
The drill was to send out the flying monkeys and let the Wizards of Oz remain behind the curtain.

[ Parent ]
We will all know on Tuesday (4.00 / 1)
I have been calling for Malloy in Eastern CT and my anecdotal analysis is Two for Malloy, One for Lamont, 3 undecided, 5 refused (I am calling seniors who really believe who they vote for is no one's business) and the other 70% not home.  Does that mean Dan will win in the second district?  Not necessarily, but it is certainly better than in 2006 when my calling was met with "Who is Dan Malloy?" or "There is a governor's primary?"  I believe that it will be the campaign that gets the vote out that will win (obviously).  So, I anticipate a low 20-25% turnout and it will be very close.  Since both campaigns are closing with positive ads, I hope those ads are the images that the voters take into the voting booth on Tuesday.  May the voters pick the best person on Tuesday.

Q (0.00 / 0)
From a campaign office, or from your home/cell phone?

[ Parent ]
From a Campaign office? (4.00 / 1)
I have been calling from a campaign office in New London although I did do one day of calling from my home phone three weeks ago.

[ Parent ]
That's just an interesting window to look at results from (0.00 / 0)
What shows up on the caller ID greatly impacts what you get by way of results -- phonebank results from a local / non campaign number will have more IDs from people who aren't planning to vote (less distorted than campaign office results) and fewer from people who oppose your candidate (more distorted than campaign office results).

–7.25 / –7.28 | http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/tw...

[ Parent ]
edit (0.00 / 0)
more from people who oppose your candidate. Those who see "Lamont for Governor" on their caller ID but dislike him (or aren't interested in the primary) will skip that call, but might answer one from a home number. Anyway, there's no perfect way to get IDs (that's why they're different from scientific polls), they are just views of the electorate shaded in different ways.

Thanks for the good work! (0.00 / 0)
I think Malloy is building momentum. Lamont's support seems a little soft, except for here. Facebook is heavily tilted toward Malloy, at least from what I've seen.

[ Parent ]
the latest talking point? (0.00 / 0)
keep hammering it kevin.

[ Parent ]
Your post is ridiculous... (0.00 / 0)
Whose talking point am I spouting?

You know, it might be possible, horror of horrors, that I actually believe what I'm typing, that I arrived at these conclusions through my own exploration. If you got outside your own myopic world, you might actually realize that not everyone agrees with you. And that doesn't always have to be a bad thing.

PS. To support my previous post, at this minute, Malloy has over 2.3 times the supporters on Facebook than Lamont has. And his numbers have been growing fast. That's not something to be sneezed at.

[ Parent ]
additional (0.00 / 0)
I know a whole lot of people voting for Lamont who are signed up on Malloy's facebook.  Just because they're called "friends" doesn't mean they are.

[ Parent ]
Supporters = (0.00 / 0)
People who have signed up to express support for a candidate, and to receive that candidate's notices and information.

[ Parent ]
or they could be spies for other campaigns (0.00 / 0)
or they could be news folks who want to keep tabs on what the candidate is saying to his/her supporters.

[ Parent ]
If that's the case, (0.00 / 0)
you would think that both candidates would have roughly the same number of "soft" Facebook supporters. And that sounds a lot like spin to me.

It seems a stretch to say that Dan has more reporters following him, especially when Ned has long been the putative front-runner.

[ Parent ]
it's freaking FACEBOOK, kevin (0.00 / 0)
jesus.

[ Parent ]
I think I'm listed as a Malloy supporter (0.00 / 0)
At least I get his Facebook blasts.

But let's forget reality and rally round the candidate whobis certain to get out-spent by a 3:1, maybe 5:1, ratio?

[ Parent ]
Ah, so we've come down to: (4.00 / 1)
Let's vote for the rich guy?

[ Parent ]
Poor Dannel. (4.00 / 1)
Raised in Shippan, forced to live there still.  Long nights at the yacht club. Blue collar on his Brooks Brothers shirt.  Slaving away in the salt mines of career politics.  Just another working class hero.

No wonder he's  wearing a halo in all those campaign photos.

[ Parent ]
Is this for real? (0.00 / 0)
Now you're attacking Malloy because I replied to another MLN commenter who talked up Ned's wealth?

You really might want to take a break. This can't be healthy for you.

[ Parent ]
Your comment (0.00 / 0)
was scathing and dripping with sarcasm. Maybe there are two cheles typing here, taking breaks between comments?

[ Parent ]
yes (4.00 / 1)
it was sarcastic.  I was hoping for scathing, and I'm pleased you think I achieved that.   I wouldn't call it an attack on Dannel though... just a commentary on his bogus campaign rhetoric about his working class roots.  Dannel Malloy was never "just folks" and Ned Lamont isn't evil because he's got more money than Dannel, who grew up with more than most people in Stamford.

[ Parent ]
Nice straw man... (0.00 / 0)
Where you ever got, from this conversation, that anyone here thinks Lamont is "evil" because he has money is beyond me. In fact, Lamont's money is being discussed here as a possible strength. That's what this conversation is all about. Have you read it?

PS. I'm checking out now. This feels like a bunch of non-sequitirs to me.

[ Parent ]
And Malloy being limited to $3 Million in the general, (0.00 / 0)
minus what ever he's over-spending right now, -- Isn't a huge-ass weakness?

Why you guys are trying to force-feed  us a candidate who is guaranteed to be out-spent is beyond me. Incredibly stupid, really.

[ Parent ]
Kevin, you're hurting your candidate (0.00 / 1)
You and other (sometimes unrevealed) Malloy campaign workers who have come on this site and attempted to play bloggers here have done a very grave disservice to everyone on this site.  You may not realize it, but this sort of dirty attack combined with lightweight arguments and denigrating snark is really turning people off and causing serious bitterness.  You would do well to back off.

You're hurting your own cause.

[ Parent ]
Is this the same facebook (0.00 / 0)
that has all those wonderful things about Lamont on pages owned by Malloy?

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.
electrealdemocrats.com Online since 3/07 -- TimetogoJoe.com Online s

[ Parent ]
I don't follow... (0.00 / 0)
Do you mean some Malloy supporters on Facebook said mean things about Ned? If that's the case, I don't think commenters at MLN would be considered fair arbiters, given the constant attacks on Malloy I've seen here over the past few weeks.

[ Parent ]
Two weeks only Kevin, (0.00 / 0)
After Roy O and Malloy decided in a desperate moment to go all-out negative.

But maybe I should respect the team that took this race into the gutter? Because hands down Malloy is so much more electable, even with very limited campaign dollars for the general? (and if his message is so wonderful as to overcome being outspent.... whoops!)

[ Parent ]
Not sure where you're getting "hands down"... (0.00 / 0)
That wasn't my message. I think this will be a tough race, no matter who we nominate on Tuesday. And for the record, if Ned wins, I will be supporting him no less than 100%.

I think you're making links based on unrelated causes. Sure, Dan launched the first negative attacks. I'll concede that. But campaign races, by their very nature, heat up in the last couple weeks, so it's just as likely, on Facebook, that people are more keyed up at this stage because they're finally paying attention and the situation is much more urgent.

And many of them say things they might regret, just like those of us here on MLN, up typing hard at 2 am on Saturday. ;-)

[ Parent ]
No, (4.00 / 1)
Malloy ran a contest where he rewards people for saying crap about his opponent.

And that attacks against Malloy started after he pulled Lieberman's disproved and debunked lies out of the closet and threw them at Lamont. Before that there was far more front paging that was pro-Malloy than not.

If Malloy had not gone to the sewer, odds are that this site would still be very mush non-commuted. Malloy made the bed he's sleeping in now full of fleas, because he lay down with the dogs.

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.
electrealdemocrats.com Online since 3/07 -- TimetogoJoe.com Online s

[ Parent ]
oh no! (0.00 / 0)
Don't tell me the Malloy facebook pages aren't an objective resource!

btw... are there any progressive Connecticut blogs that are pro-Malloy?  I've looked, but I can't seem to find one.
