My Left Nutmeg

To Post-Primary Unity

by: spazeboy

Wed Jul 14, 2010 at 17:23:48 PM EDT

I hesitate to speak for everyone, but I like to think that all of us in the MLN community share a common goal:  we want to elect a Democrat to the Governor's office in Connecticut this year.

So, while I've taken a side in the CT-Gov primary, I want to let everyone know that I will support the Democratic nominee for Governor, regardless of the outcome.

If you'd like to join me in this, then just copy/paste this text into a comment as a reply to this diary:

I will support the Democratic nominee for Governor, regardless of the outcome.

That's it.

Whoever wins this primary is going to need all of our support in November.  It's important that our next Governor is a Democrat, and that he goes into office with a clear mandate to do what needs to be done.  My intent with this diary is to show that despite our differences, that we will come together on August 11 to work toward victory in November.

I think it would be nice if we could keep the comments on this post free of other discussion.  This diary is about one thing only:  expressing your support for the Democratic nominee for Governor, whoever it may be.

Comments about anything else are off topic in this thread.  If there are other subjects you would like to discuss, I encourage you to post a new diary or comment on one of the open threads.

Everyone who considers themself a Democrat should agree to this (3.88 / 8)
I pledge I will support our Democratic nominee, regardless of who wins the primary.

Of course, you can choose to abandon the party and support the GOP if things don't go your way.  Look at how well it worked for this lady:

Helen then went on to become a Fox News darling and pledged her allegiance to John McCain and the Republicans.  Sour grapes never works out well.

If Dan Malloy wins, I would like to support (2.60 / 5)
Him in a bid for the governorship.

But said support is clearly conditioned on him not doing anything outrageous, (a la the DeStefano in a dress ad of 2006), in the closing weeks of this primary season.

Character still counts to me, and I'll only fall in line behind leaders who demonstrate it. (one doesn't have to be perfect, nor a complete angel, but there is a line.)

The same for me (2.75 / 4)
Also, if Malloy wins the primary, will he be a gracious winner and welcome with open arms his former primary opponents, no matter how passionate they were or will he be vindictive towards his most passionate opponents?

One thing I've noticed about Lamont, is that he's a gracious winner.  It showed in 2006, when he won the full support of most Dem Establishment types, like President Pro Tempre Don Williams, who worked hard to help Lamont in the general election in 2006.  This year, Lamont has benefited from his ability not to hold grudges with Dem leaders, like Williams, who endorsed Lamont early for governor.

Agreed.  While I would never vote for a Republican, I have found myself not voting for the Democrat because I found his/her past performance, or his/her campaign, too distasteful.  Or I thought he/she just wasn't right for the job.  I never voted for Lieberman. After arguing with myself for a whole day while working at the polls, at quarter to eight on election night I found myself unable to vote for Diane Farrell for a number of reasons.

I realize there is often validity to the argument that "any Democrat will be better than the Republican" -- but sometimes I end up believing the Democrat doesn't deserve my vote, and there is no way I can grit my teeth and vote for someone whom I think is so flawed that they will govern badly, or in a way that I find offensive.

Yep. No problem with the pledge for this Democrat. (4.00 / 3)

Tom Foley has a fighter jet that he flies in his spare time. Fighter jets are cool.

Sold to Tom Foley in 1990, a mere three years and 1 million dollars of work later found XP533 back in the air. Modern avionics and electrics have replaced the original systems and an electrical starting system has been added. She's painted in an unusual reverse Red Arrows scheme of overall white with red flashes.

Don't matter no how. If it don't have sails I ain't interested .

A 100-foot yacht, "Odalisque," registered under the flag of the Republic of Marshall Islands to Foley's  home address. Owner listed as Seagoing Services Ltd., according to records on file with ABS, a company that tracks ship registrations. Boat's port of registration is Bikini. Previously flagged under the Republic of Liberia.

Linda doesn't need that big a phallic symbol (possibly because she has more balls than Foley) Linda McMahon and her husband own a 47-foot powerboat named Sexy Bitch.

But I'll vote for the other guy if he gets it.

Here's a question - do you have the same policy for the Comptroller race? (0.00 / 0)

–7.25 / –7.28 | http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/tw...

No. (0.00 / 0)
But the comptroller race hasn't exactly divided the MLN community (or the larger progressive community) in the same way that the CT-Gov race seems to, which is why I put up a unity pledge post for the Gov. race and not any other.

Interesting how this Post got hijacked (3.50 / 4)
It started out so positive-minded and then disintegrated.
Oh well.

Interesting how you define "disintegrated" (3.00 / 4)
Self-fulfilling prophecy, perhaps?

Oh well.
