Alpert drops out

by: mattw

Fri May 21, 2010 at 19:59:44 PM EDT

Halfway through the fourth of five CDs, Alpert asked to be recognized, and withdrew his name from nomination, endorsing Dick Blumenthal. There will be no petitions.

Update: very gracious concession speech (different from the tenor of the campaign according to one correspondent), followed by a Blumenthal video. With the vote cut short, we're waiting for Dick to arrive to deliver his speech.

What? (0.00 / 0)
No votes for Lee Whitnum? snark

Gracious (0.00 / 0)
I was surprised at how gracious Alpert was in dropping out.  To put things into context Alpert received more votes than Peter Schiff, and Schiff is promising to petition onto the ballot.

Gracious? (4.00 / 2)
Did he read his other speech he planned to give if he was allowed to speak?

Gracious is Alpert not using GOP talking points in making the case against Dodd in the first place.

Gracious is Alpert not mocking Blumenthal with handing rubber chickens to the media, or having a guy in a chicken suit in Hartford, or not mocking Blumenthal in his god-awful twitter posts.

Gracious is Alpert not calling Blumenthal a liar this week or not putting on a show for the media arguing with DiNardo in front of the cameras.

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh and I need to watch his speech again but after everything he's done, I'm not taking his swan song speech at face value. Gracious isn't in this man's vocabulary and he probably trying to save some face in front of the party. Alpert has a great deal of damage control to take care of before I believe anything he does...
