Dodd on Squawk Box

Dodd says he's "still confident" about having a financial reform bill passed including new consumer protection measures. However, see this criticism from Ariana Huffington on the compromises made in the bill to appease Republicans. When asked about health care and specifically on reconciliation, which to my knowledge Dodd has not publicly supported, he said he would prefer not to go that route but also said "we have to get this done".

Hey Senator...here's an idea for you... how about instead of worrying if your conservative Republican buddies like Judd Gregg and Richard Shelby are happy; you concentrate on working families in this Great Recession.

Also, instead of saying the right things and then watering down attempts at regulatory reform, you sit down with Elizabeth Warren and listen to someone who gets it...instead of listening to the people who caused the recession on the first place.

But let justice roll down like waters...Amos 5:24a

Dodd still doesn't get it (0.00 / 0)
If even his impending retirement can't induce him to speak his conscience, then I don't think he ever really got it.  What kind of Health Care bill does he want to see pass?  If he is not supportive of reconciliation to get this crappy bill passed, then what does he envision?

I'm sick of hearing this 17% of the economy crapola when it comes to Health Care.  If it wasn't for the "end of the quarter" mentality that is so pervasive in our capitalist utopia and insurance companies that jack up their rates at will, the percentage of GDP that health care represents would be a lot lower.

Dodd seems to be leaving the senate like his father..in shame (0.00 / 0)
The regulation he is proposing is weak and does not get to the heart of the key items that need regulation.

He has put the financial protection for consumers in the same organization (the Fed) that screwed it up before.  Dodd has nothing to lose, he could be a profile in courage proposing what needs to get done with tough legislation

Instead he is auditioning for his next job--financial industry lobbyist.  It is a sad end to government career.
