Ned Lamont to announce on Tuesday

by: Scarce

Fri Feb 12, 2010 at 14:53:32 PM EST

From Susan Haigh of the Associated Press:

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Ned Lamont, the political upstart who challenged U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman four years ago, plans to officially announce his bid for Connecticut governor next week, according to a state Democratic official.

The official told The Associated Press on Friday that Lamont will declare his candidacy Tuesday at the Old State House in downtown Hartford, the same location where Lamont announced his Senate run back in March of 2006. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the campaign has not yet made the announcement.

UPDATE: E-mail from Ned just in.

Friends,

Over the last few months, I've spoken with voters across Connecticut, sharing with you my vision for our future and listening to your thoughts on how we can work together to get our state back on track.

Four years ago, I was humbled to be joined by so many of you as I stood at the Old State House in Hartford to call for a new direction for our nation.

Today, it has become increasingly clear that we need a new direction in Connecticut.

I would be honored if you joined my family and me this coming Tuesday, February 16th at 11:00am at the Old State House in Hartford for a very special announcement.

When: Tuesday, February 16th, 11:00AM
Where: Old State House, 800 Main Street, Hartford, CT [Map] [Directions and Parking]

Immediately following the event, please join me and other supporters for a reception just down the block at City Steam, 942 Main Street, Hartford CT.

Please RSVP here.

Or RSVP on Facebook here.

I hope to see you at the Old State House on Tuesday as we stand up and begin to chart a new course for our great state,

Ned

"The political upstart"? (0.00 / 0)
Which AP hack wrote that?  Was it "Steno Sue" Haigh?  Sounds like her.

It is "Steno Sue"!! (0.00 / 0)
I didn't read the intro, just guessed.  Some people don't change.  It was Susan Haigh who acquired her "Steno Sue" nickname from the way she just regurgitated every single attack line, regardless of how false they were, from the Lieberman campaign during 2006.

Apparently she's ready to spew out the same hit-jobs as last time.

upstart? parvenu? (0.00 / 0)
LOL

Ned don't blow it this time

I'm rooting for you

Meanwhile, Figueroa blows Lamont away in a new "Organizing for Connecticut" online poll (0.00 / 2)
Figueroa shows his grass-roots strength in this new on-line poll, at:

Figueroa: 71%
Lamont: 14%

Ned...progressive (0.00 / 0)
CTNJ stabs at part of the myth that Ned will be progressive. He won't be.

His failure to support the Working Families Party meat and potatoes issue of paid sick days will be just the first of many issues that progressives will see Ned backtrack on.

Many of the hard core progs who supported Ned in 2006, gathering signatures in the early days, are on board with Figueroa.

FYI - He's the guy who made Rell/Moody/CBIA look the fools they are (0.00 / 0)
by spearheading the healthcare4every1 Campaign, getting SustiNet passed, THEN drop-kicking the governor's veto into outer Mongolia....

And apparently - He's also the of candidate who scares you enough to make you believe that feigning ignorance of his strength is....  "funny".....

Sweet dreams, friend!

Malloy got twelve dollars? (0.00 / 0)
That doesn't even make cents!

MLN Straw Poll (0.00 / 0)
Someone should post an MLN straw poll that includes all of the candidates for Governor, just to see where the MLN community stands.

As for the "Organizing for Connecticut" online poll, only two conclusions can be drawn (assuming that the poll only allowed one vote per person):

  1. 71% of the people voting in the poll (not 71% of Democrats, not 71% of Connecticut voters) prefer Juan Figueroa.
  2. Actually, that's it.  Drawing any other conclusions would make me look like an idiot.

Of course online polls aren't scientific.

But here are more conclusions from the Organizing for Connecticut poll:

1) Figueroa has lots of active supporters who, with limited campaign financial resources right now, are smart and committed enough to use opportunities like this.

2) The other candidates could not get their acts together enough to turn out votes - OR they don't HAVE enough supporters who give a crap - for a simple, public online poll run by the Obama organization in CT.

3) Note: Obviously, Lamont and Malloy supporters KNEW about the poll - or they would have gotten NO votes at all...  What, no Facebook friends??

4) If Lamont and Malloy want to claim that polls like this don't matter at all -- well, just look at all the public (and FUN!) discussion we're having right now  (and on other blogs...)

5) The Organizing for CT poll obviously worries SOME people enough that they are trying a "do-over" -- a second on-line poll to give their favorites a chance to redeem themselves (nothwithstanding excuses like: "Because Amann -- polled at 0% -- is out of the race, we HAVE to do that darn poll over again!" LOL!)

6) You would never look like an idiot.

Thank you for the fast reply.I was  pleased  to have Juan Figueroa run his first race  for state representative out of my law office and I can attest to his progressive credentials.Certainly Lamont and Malloy would also be considered progtressive by the general public. For me, it matters not what a progressive poll says about another progressive as a poll would say how progressives do in a poll among the largest base of voters here in Connecticut, independant voters.I am fairly sure that you will recognize,as I recognize, that we progressives have a large and important "say" in any statewide primary within our own party but our influence wanes within a larger general election.Hence I am not so concerned about which candidate is the most progressive as I am  in which candidate within our party has the best chance of winning a general election.

I will "do my homework" and check that poll but no matter what the number of voters might be, it wont be dispositive  to me.Once again thank you for the quick reply.
