Free Health Care Clinic in Hartford

by: Scarce

Wed Feb 03, 2010 at 21:11:37 PM EST

From the Keith Olbermann sponsored free clinic today in Hartford. Rep. Joe Courtney made a brief appearance on The Ed Show, while his wife Audrey (a nurse) attended the event. I'm told Ned Lamont also attended.

I don't know what they are doing in Washington.

I know that there aren't any house members here and there aren't any senators here. And I can tell you one piece of information here in Connecticut, the house and the senate passed Universal care for everyone and the governor vetoed it. The public option in this state polls overwhelmingly well, but in Washington, Joe Lieberman, not only is he not here tonite, but he's against the public option.

7:17 minutes:  I could look Joe Lieberman in the eye, and Senator, I don't care if it costs me my job, I don't care, you are a coward.

I don't see a story in Harford Courant (0.00 / 0)
There was only a small headline in the online edition yesterday, and that one was buried below several other, and insignicant, stories.  I don't see one headline in Courant today.

What's up? Anyone want to contact the editor for a quote?

Was it frontpaged in the paper edition?

No Joe Lieberman (4.00 / 1)
I was at the medical clinic for eight hours. I said hello to Ned Lamont, Richard Blumenthal, Steve Fontana, speaker of the house Donovan. It was nice to see them there.

State Rep Vickie Nardello was also there. (0.00 / 0)
She is Chair of the Energy and Technology Committee as well as being a member of the Insurance (and Real Estate) Committee and a member of the Public Health Committee.

From her bio on the CT.gov page:

...Rep. Nardello [...] established a subcommittee on Public Health to identify safety net providers and transition them to a managed care system with reducing access to health services for Medicaid enrollees.

She previously served as chair of the Quality of Care Subcommittee of the Hospital Commission. Her work on that committee resulted in legislation that created a quality of ICARE advisory committee in the Department of Public Health. It required the committee to develop a public report comparing hospitals for use by consumers in making health care decisions and also requires medical error reporting.

During her legislative tenure, Rep. Nardello has worked directly on legislation to reform managed care, to establish a report card for Medicare managed care plans which serve seniors, to address dental access issues, to study prescription drug pricing, to establish a ConnPACE Part B prescription drug plan, and to establish a Community Benefits Reporting program for hospitals and HMO's.

She was very knowledgeable and caring, and didn't mind at all that I called her A CT-N TV Star.
