I'm with Stupid

Sharing an email received last night from a friend in Arizona about Massachusetts, Healthcare, and a special High One to Joe Lieberman

Subject: I'm with Stupid

Hi there....Everything's fine healthwise...We haven't lost the house or anything, but I was pacing around the house, ranting ... and thought of you...hee hee.....What the hell were they thinking in MA !!?...Losing that seat was the most irresponsible damn thing I've seen in a long time ... An awful candidate who appeared not to care what happened or that it was a gift bestowed on her or I don't know what...We've been huge Obama supporters and after all these cynical years have definitely given the benefit of a doubt to the congressional Dems, but where were they?...How did the national committees miss this until it was too late?...shit!... I, of course, am one of the millions of uninsurable Americans with a big ol' pre-existing condition ... In our particular case we had insurance for years but in '97, when I was diagnosed with Hep C, one fuck-up at a hospital put through a bill for $380 on the insurance...In the state we were in, they couldn't just drop me, but they could and did double and re-double the rate... We actually paid $1400 per month for just me for some years...Then they raised it to $2400 per month and that was that...In all that time the only bill the insurers paid was that $380...The nature of the disease was that I went for more than 10 years with no real problems other than the occasional blood test...Of course if I now had all the money I paid in premiums.....well.....And as I'm sure you're well aware, there are millions like me and worse....Sooo it really pisses me off when "my guys" pull a bone-headed screw-up like tonight...Thanks for listening...Hope you and yours are happy and well...By the way.....If you should happen to see Joe Leiberman on the street up there---please do something horrible to him----and tell him I sent you........lovetom

The People Perceived Her As A Corporate Whore (0.00 / 0)
.
I guess that meant more to them than Party. I've been up in the Bay State all week and the TV campaign ads from the brownbaggers have been nailing her about this:

http://www.counterpunch.org/mo...

Well, minus the part about single-payer of course...

Both sides were accusing the other of the same things in the incessant ads, both working your sense of outrage.

Then again, people from Massachusetts aren't like us, you should see the way they drive...

No more worrying about joey being the 60th vote anymore...

What 60 Votes? (0.00 / 0)
No Joey
No Max Baucus
No Blanche Lincoln
No Evan Bayh
No Ben Nelson
Ya-da Ya-da Ya-da . . .

Let's get real here.  The bill that the Blue Dogs might have been prepared to vote for was not worth the fight. I hope that the President finally decides to get tough and the House produces a decent bill, which Harry Reid (belatedly) puts through employing reconciliation. If Dems want to hold onto their seats in November, they'd better produce a decent health care bill; and Obama has to generate some jobs programs and facilitate a better economic climate.  Hungry sick people, and those losing their homes, are angry and could produce more results like the Massachusetts fiasco -- even with better candidates.

ebertchicago: Massachusetts voters say, "Our state has a great health plan that we love, but why should you have one?" (0.00 / 0)
140 characters pretty much summed it up :(

We spent some great hell-raising days together in our NYC youth.
I could show ya photos but I won't...

He had a station wagon with Florida plates - had the motto "Arrive Alive" - with a baby doll wired to the bumper.

Senator or Pimp? you decide (0.00 / 0)
Triumphant Massachusetts Senator-elect Scott Brown veered off-script in his acceptance speech last night, mentioning that his two daughters were "available." Was it "funny ha-ha," "funny strange," or just plain creepy?

In an awkward departure from his prepared remarks, Brown told the crowd that his college-age daughters Ayla and Arianna were "both available." Ayla, apparently playing along, told him, "not Arianna," at which point he extended the awkwardness by pointing out, "Arianna definitely is not available, but Ayla is." Brown finished up the creep portion of his speech with the words, "I can tell I'm going to be getting in trouble when I get home" - but he may be in trouble with bloggers as well as his daughters. Medaite comments, "now talking heads will debate for the next 24 hours - was that comment 'funny ha-ha'? Or just 'funny strange?'" We're going to go with "gross."

Brown (who, as most know by now, once posed nude for Cosmo) has been accused of sexism in the past. At a rally, one of his supporters shouted, "Shove a curling iron up her butt," referring to opponent Martha Coakley, and Brown appeared to respond, "We can do this." It's not totally clear whether Brown's comment was a direct response, SFGate blogger Zennie62 points out that he didn't take the time to condemn the "curling iron" remark either. And after a presidential campaign rife with cries of "terrorist" and "kill him," candidates can no longer simply let their supporters' hateful words slide (though, for the record, Brown denies having heard his supporter's remark).

Brown's weirdness about his daughters didn't rise to "curling iron" levels, but it's unlikely Brown would've made a similar comment if he'd had sons. However, his supporters will no doubt find it reassuring that after his foray into matchmaking, Brown returned to what's really important - his truck.

it's going to be a long four years for Mass (he's up for reelection in 2012, right?)

Weird is Becoming the Norm (0.00 / 0)
We thought Dick Cheney was the anomaly, but with candidates like Palin and a new Senator like Brown, reasonably normal people ought to be very scared!
