President Obama rejected in an interview Tuesday the criticism that he has compromised too much in order to secure health-care reform legislation, challenging his critics to identify any "gap" between what he campaigned on last year and what Congress is on the verge of passing.

"Nowhere has there been a bigger gap between the perceptions of compromise and the realities of compromise than in the health-care bill," Obama said in an Oval Office interview with The Washington Post about his legislative record this year. "Every single criteria for reform I put forward is in this bill."

They are cutting everything good out and making it into corporate welfare in the final Senate version.

As it goes into into conference we will get a real idea on where Obama stands on this because now 3 groups will have an equal say at the table:

1. The Senate
2. The House
3. The Obama Administration

Whatever comes out of there will be what the White House wants because because there is stuff to pick and choose from in the bills from both sides of Congress.

This is make or break time for Obama.

... what these dudes are being told by their staff. Like, maybe Rahm is saying "Sir, these so-called-progressives are just angry that the bill doesn't include single-payer. Don't worry about it." Which leads to nonsense like that interview quote.

... to find the "gaps" between what he campaigned on what he promised:

Obama said that government shouldn't mandate coverage (like Hillary's plan would have), but this plan does.

He said we shouldn't tax health insurance (like John McCain wanted to), but this plan does.

He said we should be able to negotiate lower drug prices, but we can't.

He said we should have a public plan to compete against private insurers, but we don't.

 It is evident from more then a casual observation that the White House was ambivelent about the public option and the medicare buyin.I still believe that the public option is possible  by creating one in the conference committee thru the new setup where the government will oversee a menu of plans.....with an opt in provision.If that doesnt work then congress should  work on the medicare buyin asap.
