Memories....

From the 2006 Lamont-Lieberman debates. Connecticut got suckered by spiel like this three years ago.

July 6, 2006:

What I'm saying to the people of Connecticut, I can do more for you and your families to get something done to make health care affordable, to get universal health insurance.

October 23, 2006:

I've been working on health insurance reform for more than a dozen years. ... I have offered a comprehensive program. Small business health insurance reform, plus something I call MediKids to cover all the children in America on a sliding fee basis up until the age of 25.

MediChoice to allow anybody in our country to buy into a national insurance pool like the health insurance pool that we federal employees and Members of Congress have. Medical malpractice reform.

It will cover 95% of those who are not covered now, and it will reduce the pressure on rising costs for all the millions of others.

At least he is consistent (4.00 / 1)
His word can never be relied upon.

Reid says Lieberman is the least of his (4.00 / 1)
problems and I believe him.

Todays little show was just Liebermans way of feeding his need for attention.

I called the Hartford office (4.00 / 1)
and left a message with my rant this afternoon.  The DC voicemail was full.  Apparently no live people were brave enough to answer phone calls.

I got through to someone and... (0.00 / 0)
She was very sweet and polite when she told me she would have to hang up if I was going to swear (I called LIEberman an ass). So I managed to bite my tongue and finish the rest of my rant without any further curse words. I hammered home the question about who he actually represents when the polling shows a large majority of his constituents want the public option. Told her I was tired of the pay to play politics of Washington and its time for Joe to represent his constituents and not his benefactors.

It's been a long time since I was this angry at LIEberman. I wish there was a way to recall Senators.

But Reid should probably also be the target for some of the rage because it is his weakness, and his kow-towing to LIEberman that allows him to get away with this kind of crap. Perhaps this whole thing about Reid putting in the public option was one giant kabuki dance knowing that LIEberman would take it out.

The Democrats have nobody to blame but themselves (4.00 / 1)
Our weak-assed leadership is completely responsible for Lieberman having any power at all right now.  Whenever you give a spoiled child everything he wants, you can't help but make him a tyrant.

Dodd fought harder than anyone (4.00 / 4)
... to keep Lieberman chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.

The sad truth is that Chris Dodd and the rest of the Democrats will be judged by what they do on Health Care reform, banking reform, climate and energy reform, and getting the economy moving again.

In each case, Lieberman has been watering down legislation -- and making it harder to get good bills passed.

By bending over for Lieberman, Dodd and the rest of the Democrats hurt their own chances of re-election.

Is that necessariliy such a bad thing from their perspective? (0.00 / 0)
Many of those who are not re elected seem to cry all the way to the bank with lobbyist or other cushy jobs.

Well stated by Bob, and Robert Scheer (4.00 / 1)
http://www.commondreams.org/vi...

Is there a more hypocritical figure in American politics than Joe Lieberman?...

The surrender by the Democratic leadership to this blackmail by the party's disgraced former vice presidential candidate would be a blow from which the party would not deserve to recover.

Great article but Scheer forgot to mention Joe's former leadership of the Gangster Of 14.  Now even if they all quit, he as a Gang Of 1 could cause cloture.

Perhaps,...... (4.00 / 1)
Lieberman's $50,000 donation to Reid's campaign might have blurred the fact that Lieberman has jerked Reid and the Democrats around since day one!     Instead of Reid threatening Lieberman with committee seats----Joe has held Reid by the short hairs with the threat of rolling over to the Repugs!    Can we not get rid of Reid as Majority Leader---and get a REAL leader in there?        This is ridiculous.
I bet half of this is Lieberman's way to get back at the Democrats still, because of his bruised ego at getting kicked to the curb by them!      I still remember back to the night when Lamont got the bid, and all Joe could do was to come out and whine how he was going to run anyways.   Still makes me smile !       How I hate this man!

If the Public Option doesn't pass (4.00 / 2)
You'll not have to worry about Reid or Dodd because they'll both not be reelected.

If President Obama feels Blanche Lincoln is more important than Reid and Dodd all he has to do is continue to make believe he's in favor of the Public Option while doing nothing to assure it passes as part of the HCR bill.
