Senator Dodd remarks on the current state of health care reform

by: ctblogger

Dodd_Bloggers

On Saturday, Senator Chris Dodd met with with area bloggers to give an update on his legislative agenda as well as answer our questions. Over the next few days, myself and others will post their thoughts on the meet and greet with the senator.

With Democrats controlling the executive and legislative branch of the federal government, several of those in attendance expressed their concerns with Senator Dodd regarding the current state of health care reform.

More later..

Great use of the two-camera setup, too!  Nicely done.

on naming the public option for Sen Ted Kennedy -- (0.00 / 0)
afterward, Sen Dodd came up and thanked me for raising this idea -- it seemed to strike a chord with him.

Imagine the potential impact of the following scene:

Dodd holds a press conference on Capitol Hill, joined by Democrats from the HELP Committee, including the new chairman Sen Tom Harkin, and Democrats from the Finance Committee, including Sen Kerry of MA, and Senators Rockefeller, Schumer, Wyden, Stabenow, Cantwell (&others?) to announce they will name the HELP committee's public option for Teddy and work to include it in any final bill.

Dodd Health Care Assertion re Only Piece of Legislation That Affects 100% (0.00 / 0)
It was a well-turned phrase, but the fact is that many, many pieces of legislation affect 100% of Americans. Frankly, I think that's a problem that many legislators have: they view legislation as affecting only a segment of the population. Let's take tax cuts for the wealthy. You don't think that those tax cuts adversely affect the remaining 99% of the population? Forgive me, but much as I want single-payer and will likely have to settle for a watered-down public option, I believe that our society is interconnected and poor health care or no health care for undocumented workers affects us all and not just in terms of productivity.
