In the wake of his comment yesterday approving of right-wing attempts to disrupt and shut down town hall meetings with members of Congress and their constituents, state Republican Party Chairman Chris Healy repeated similar sentiments in a post today on the official state Republican Party blog, once again defending the tactics already in use by CT Republican activists:
Efforts by the Democrats, including the White House, to paint all who object to HB 3200 and other plans as "mobs" or dupes of insurance companies and right-wing organizations is beyond silly. It shows how scared they are of the people, and how they are willing to show up on a hot night to make things uncomfortable for the political class.
One's [sic] perrson's [sic] mob is another person's concerned citizen's group. People should be vocal, direct, but polite and respectful. Most of the yourtube [sic] tapes show that. If Members of Congress get upset because people are shouting at them, maybe they should listen.
If you feel like it, and if you enjoy attempting to find meaning in incoherent ramblings, head to Healy's post on health care and attempt to count the errors. Aside from a fact-checker, it looks the Connecticut Republican Party could stand to hire a spell-checker as well.
Update: Is this or this an example of what Healy considers the "polite and respectful" behavior of Republicans on the YourTube tapes?
Update 2: The CT Democratic Party today called on Healy, as well as Simmons, Foley, and Caligiuri, to disavow the actions of CT right-wing protesters intent on shutting down debate (via press release):
The Connecticut Democratic Party today called for Healy, along with Rob Simmons, Tom Foley and Sam Caligiuri, to disavow behavior like this, which serves no purpose in furthering our nation's dialogue on critical issues like healthcare.
"There's a time and a place for thoughtful, respectful dialogue about the issues of the day. It's clear that this man and others like him who have taken to shouting down Congressional representatives, trying to intimidate them, advocating for Sen. Dodd's suicide, and generally acting in a mob-like mentality have no interest in participating like rational human beings," said Democratic Party Communications Director Colleen Flanagan "The Republicans lost last November because the fringe element of their party ended up running the show. Chris Healy, Rob Simmons and others, who have stoked these teabagging flames before, have remained silent on this latest outrageous display of crazy. We can only take their silence as approval of this kind of behavior and the consequences that may go along with it." |
