Himes surpasses $1 Million raised

by: Bob Adams

Wed Jul 08, 2009 at 16:46:54 PM EDT

(cross posted from ConnecticutBob.com)

When Rep. Jim Himes (CT-04) posts his 2nd quarter numbers with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) next week, he'll reach a significant milestone nearly 16 months in advance of the 2010 election.

Over $ 1,000.000 raised!

Bob Adams :: Himes surpasses $1 Million raised
Himes has raised around $520,000 this quarter, and his campaign has cash on hand of over $760,000.

This means the total amount he's has raised for his 2010 re-election campaign is nearly $1.1 Million!

The final FEC filing deadline for the 2nd quarter is July 15th, so by next week we'll have official confirmation on these very significant numbers. This bodes extremely well for Jim and his campaign for re-election next year.

Is This Good News Or Bad News? (0.00 / 0)
Don't take this the wrong way, for I certainly was never a fan of his predecessor. But, it sure would be a good thing to have a Dem challenger not from the Banking Oligarchy...

Hard to say (4.00 / 1)
He did quit, after all.

I enjoyed that article, and it's a good primer for the evolution of corporate malfeasance, but the wealthy mugging the poor is sadly not something that's unique to a single company, so I don't really buy the argument of them being a singular villain. Whenever there were statistics offered (x of y crooked internet IPOs, for example), the ratio wasn't really that compelling, and of course there were probably a dozen different scams happening at that same moment that weren't in the article.

I think the measure of a Representative is in their willingness to  tilt the playing field back the other way, and for now I think there are several of us keeping an eye on our delegation in this area. I'm more interested in public statements and votes than I am in identity. YMMV of course.

Good Point (0.00 / 0)
And a good way for him to show that he really did quit them would to be to do what Scorpio suggests in his/her Diary of Thursday morning titled "Thank You Rep Murphy And Rep Courtney".

Let's ask Rep. Himes to cosponsor HR 1283, too (0.00 / 0)
HR 1283 is the bill that would end Don't Ask, Don't Tell and replace it with a blanket non-discrimination policy.

Every member of the Connecticut House delegation has signed on to co-sponsor except for Rep. Himes. We know where his heart is on this issue: during the campaign, he made several public statements stating his opposition to DADT, and his campaign website still displays his pledge to "work to pass legislation to repeal the 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy." Becoming the 153rd cosponsor of 1283 will be the fulfillment of an important campaign pledge.

What does everyone say to some friendly lobbying?
