Rob Simmons is apparently the only Republican in the country who is still excited by Senator President Fred Thompson:
(MYSTIC) - The Simmons for Senate campaign today announced the endorsement of former U.S. Senator and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson (R-TN).
"I am pleased to enthusiastically support Rob Simmons in his bid for the Senate," said Thompson. "Rob has spent his career putting service above self, and he is committed to policies that will strengthen our economy, reduce the deficit, and keep America safe. He is a man of integrity who is uniquely qualified for this job, and I look forward to doing all I can to help him."
"Fred Thompson is one of America's leading voices for common sense reform and returning power to the people," said Simmons. "I am honored that he would support my effort to bring real change to Washington."
This "leading voice," besides putting Republican primary voters to sleep, also spent most of last week joining neoconservative attacks in assailing President Obama for his approach to Iran:

Seems like Rob Simmons's conception of an "enthusiastic" endorsement is about as clear as his conception of "common sense".
The CT Democratic Party responds (via press release):
Thompson, who called Roe v. Wade "bad law and bad medical science" and while in the U.S. Senate, voted with President George W. Bush a stunning 99.5% of the time, endorsed Simmons earlier today.
"While attempting to burnish his so-called "moderate" credentials for the U.S. Senate race, this endorsement by a conservative, radically anti-choice, George W. Bush Republican shows where Rob Simmons' ideology truly lies. Those values may fly in Tennessee, but they'll get you nowhere fast in Connecticut. I'll give them this - Rob Simmons and Fred Thompson are both good actors." |
