CT-SEN: Still Waiting For Dan Quayle's Endorsement

by: tparty

Rob Simmons is apparently the only Republican in the country who is still excited by Senator President Fred Thompson:

(MYSTIC) - The Simmons for Senate campaign today announced the endorsement of former U.S. Senator and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson (R-TN).

"I am pleased to enthusiastically support Rob Simmons in his bid for the Senate," said Thompson.  "Rob has spent his career putting service above self, and he is committed to policies that will strengthen our economy, reduce the deficit, and keep America safe.  He is a man of integrity who is uniquely qualified for this job, and I look forward to doing all I can to help him."

"Fred Thompson is one of America's leading voices for common sense reform and returning power to the people," said Simmons.  "I am honored that he would support my effort to bring real change to Washington."

This "leading voice," besides putting Republican primary voters to sleep, also spent most of last week joining neoconservative attacks in assailing President Obama for his approach to Iran:

Fred Thompson: "The weakest performance by an American Pres since 1969" http://tinyurl.com/lgl4yb #tcot #ftrs [Twitter, 6/19/09]

Seems like Rob Simmons's conception of an "enthusiastic" endorsement is about as clear as his conception of "common sense".

The CT Democratic Party responds (via press release):

Thompson, who called Roe v. Wade "bad law and bad medical science" and while in the U.S. Senate, voted with President George W. Bush a stunning 99.5% of the time, endorsed Simmons earlier today.

"While attempting to burnish his so-called "moderate" credentials for the U.S. Senate race, this endorsement by a conservative, radically anti-choice, George W. Bush Republican shows where Rob Simmons' ideology truly lies.  Those values may fly in Tennessee, but they'll get you nowhere fast in Connecticut. I'll give them this - Rob Simmons and Fred Thompson are both good actors."

So Rob is going to (0.00 / 0)
"bring real change to Washington."

Let me guess,

He's going to use a different color ink in his stamp pad and go from Republican Representative Red to Republican Senate Scarlet?

Yup. He's going to need Fred Thompson. Reel change.

Weakest performance? (0.00 / 0)
Fred Thompson: "The weakest performance by an American Pres since 1969"

Was he including 9/11/01?  Or is that in a separate category:  President AND Vice President disappear in crisis?

Fred Thompson (0.00 / 0)
Fred  puts  asleep almost as many people  when he gives a speech as Simmons  does.  And that ladies and gentlemen is change  you can believe in.

Change (0.00 / 0)
Even the Kent democrats think its time for a change and they stood for that by voting for a resolution of no confidence in Chris Dodd.  Simmons has always been a moderate on many issues including being pro-choice.  Simmons is a nice choice for CT voters as being socially moderate and fiscally conservative and not a party line man as so many like to try and paint him.

Love how the sock puppets come out of the woodwork whenever there's a CT-Sen thread.

So Simmons is moderate on many issues, except Iraq and basically every other issue the Bush/Cheney regime endorsed.  Whee!

And he's pro-Choice.  Wow, guess what?  So is Chris Dodd.  You haven't given a single reason to vote FOR Simmons other than brainless partisan rhetoric. Good job.

See you tomorrow (under a different name, probably).

I hear Simmons will get South Carolina Gov, Sanfords (0.00 / 0)
endorsment tomorrow in  rather hot and steamy email form.

I hear it even mentions Simmons role in torturing North Vietnamese soldiers. You konw how hot and steamy Republicans get when they get to endorse real torturers.

It's you, Rob (0.00 / 0)
