How Desparate is Dodd?

by: Jon Kantrowitz

Thu May 28, 2009 at 09:31:20 AM EDT

According to the New Republic he has sunk to a new low:

Today, Dodd--five-term senator, established Washington powerbroker..-has been reduced to shoring up his liberal bona fides by railing against credit card companies on a blog called My Left Nutmeg (motto: "Where Connecticut Dems Scratch That Progressive Itch.")

Oh, the horror!

Update:
Matt Browner Hamlin responds to this nonsense eloquently.

The article goes on to describe at length the conservative record of his father, Senator Tom Dodd, and Chris' efforts to create a different kind of record:

Upon entering the Senate, Dodd set his own course as a legislator, staking out positions antithetical to his father's record as he firmly aligned himself with the progressive wing of the party. As early as 1983, the right-wing publication Human Events called his political career an "odyssey from liberalism to far left." Whereas his father had been a staunch anti-communist, Dodd broke from the center of the party by opposing aid to the Contras as a "deal with the devil." On the domestic front, he made his reputation as a dyed-in-the-wool liberal by authoring the Family and Medical Leave Act and engaging in a decades-long push for credit-card and bankruptcy reform.

Heaven forbid (4.00 / 1)
that he should spend 30 minutes talking to Democratic voters, volunteers, and donors in his home state instead of on the phone feeding up a hit piece from The New Republic (with a CT circulation that probably begins with Joe and ends with Hadassah).

Maybe "reporter-researcher" Khimm can feed the publication some more information on Sotomayor -- no reason why the "progressive" publication that brought us the Bell Curve and took down Clinton's healthcare proposal shouldn't return to claim another scalp in the person of Obama's first SCOTUS nomination.

The horror indeed (4.00 / 1)
So sad that MLN has been "reduced" to linking to a magazine like the New Republic.

Said tongue-firmly-in-cheek (0.00 / 0)
...I assume.

Suzy Khimm was educated at Yale where she studied literature. In a previous life, she says, was a playwright.

Some of her articles suggest she's also a reader of MLN.

Who did the relics at TNR want Dodd to meet with (0.00 / 0)
The "ancient press" like themselves?

Since most sane people understand that at most they'll be only two or three "newspapers" still being published daily in Ct when this campaign gets going and their imnfluence is already almost nil anyone with even a half a brain has to realixe Dodds meeting with the "dirty hippie bloggers" shows his campaign, unlike the near dead at TNR, gets it.

By the way (0.00 / 0)
Simnce TNR only has about 50,000 subscribers left I think we can assume MLNs "reach" in CT is far wider than the 1000 or so and shrinking CT subscribers.

TNR (0.00 / 0)
Is a relic and their top 2 supports are Joe Lieberman and his wife...
