Dodd to get another Republican challenger?

by: Scarce

Seems likely, according to Greg Sargent. And he's right about raising the profile of the race. Schiff is straight out of the Ron Paul libertarian wing of the republican party and will bring out the Paultards en mass. Schiff has been a fixture on the cable news channels for the last two years, a favorite of Larry Kudlow in particular.

Peter Schiff, a Connecticut-based brokerage firm owner who has been  widely hailed for predicting the U.S. financial meltdown, says he's "leaning towards" challenging  Chris Dodd's reelection next year, a move that could make the contest a nationally watched media event.

"It's better than 50-50," Schiff told me a few moments ago, saying he'd decide in the next "two to three weeks."

National Dems say they would take Schiff seriously, because of his personal wealth and because his predictions have made him something of a YouTube folk hero. He's a libertarian whose father is reportedly in jail at the age of 81 for refusing to pay taxes, and he says he's inherited many of Ron Paul's fans. One former Dodd operative conceded he has a "huge grassroots following."

The media would eat it up if someone who nailed the meltdown challenged Dodd, a major recipient of Wall Street money who was chair of the Senate Banking Committee during the collapse. Schiff suggested he would portray Dodd as asleep at the economic switch at a time when Schiff saw the collapse coming.

What the Hell Is A Paultard? (0.00 / 0)
Is that a spelling error? If that was a deliberate snark, then why is scarce being a wiseass? More detail needed here.

"If those in charge of our society...can dominate our ideas, they will be secure in their power. They will not need soldiers patrolling the streets. We will control ourselves." ~~Howard Zinn

If you read Wonkette, there are a number of running jokes about Ron Paul's supporters, who have been given that nickname. I mean, Wonkette is rude to everyone, but they really seem to relish pummeling Ron Paul people.

I must agree with Scarce, most Ron Paul supporters believe in the teachings of Scientology. Is this enough detail?

Bottom Line... (0.00 / 0)

We wouldn't even be having this discussion if Chris Dodd would call it a career. He is jeopardizing a safe Democratic seat. The Party has been loyal to the Senator and I wish he would put the Party and the issues we care about first. The truth as I see it is that the only way a Republican can win a Senate seat in Connecticut at this time, is if Dodd is our candidate. We have a whole roster of strong candidates...beginning with Ned Lamont.

Why are incumbents treated with so much deference by the Party anyway? The issues and the people's needs should trump an incumbent's desire to stay in power.

But let justice roll down like waters...Amos 5:24a

You said it, bro!! (0.00 / 0)
You nailed it.  If Dodd withdraws Nutmeggers get a another strong Democrat, not a Lieberman-loving Dodd.  It's time for Dodd to withdraw- right now!  Because he can't win, and continuing his campaign will hand the seat to Republicans.

Which is worse?  Lieberman's lying to voters when he said he will always be a Democrat, then going out and campaigning for Republicans?  Or Dodd's refusal to drop out of the race and retire, which will present a critical Senate seat to the Republicans on a silver platter?

Tough choice.
