Merrick Alpert Launches Fox News Campaign on Fox News

by: tparty

Wed May 20, 2009 at 10:32:45 AM EDT

Just a quick update to my diary from yesterday on Merrick Alpert's run at Dodd from the right. At about noon, I had commented that:

Alpert's initial forays seem not to be aimed at the grassroots but rather at the media (has Fox News called yet?), where the ground is likely to be much more fertile.

Just about two hours later, where was Alpert? On his "tour" of the state? Talking to Connecticut Democrats? Nope, he was doing a live interview on... Fox News (his appearance notably taking precedence for that network over the White House press briefing going on in the upper right hand corner), where he indicated that he indeed intends to keep on attacking Dodd's character using right-wing rhetoric, to the visible delight of the sitting anchors (h/t Scarce):

Yes, Fox News, the perfect place to reach the Democratic rank-and-file if you're a candidate interested in a substantive, issues-based primary and not simply assisting the GOP propaganda machine with character attacks. (An even better choice than, say, launching a primary campaign on Imus.)

Who's up next? Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck?

Update: Actually, up next for Alpert is right-wing AM radio host, Newsmax columnist, and friend of Fox News Steve Malzberg this afternoon!

Reminds me of... (4.00 / 2)
Another CT Democrat who was running for Senate and had a lot of good friends in Fox News defending him from CT Democrats. The name escapes me...

Disclosure: I'm proud to work for the Service Employees International Union

Fixx News (0.00 / 0)
Well now...going on Fixx news  will hardly appeal  to folks like me and other progressives.I gather  Mr Alpert  doesn't realize  that progressives  are the principle driving force in a Ct  primary...

I'll bet there are plenty of Republican Town Committee members (4.00 / 1)
who would love to vote for one of their own like Merrick Alpert instead of having to choose between the old torture guy and the young christian jihadist they've got in the lineup now.

Merrick makes a good fit and would probably win the Rockefeller Republican vote in Ct.Unfortunately for both parties half of them have now become Democrats and the Republicans Party, even in Ct,is run by right wing extremeists.

Republican tool (0.00 / 0)
This is very disturbing.  Alpert is behaving like a tool of the Republicans.  He doesn't have a prayer of getting the Democratic nomination, and I think is just on an ego trip.   But when it's all over, he'll have completely destroyed any future for himself in CT politics--unless he switches to the Republican party. Maybe that's the plan.

Can someone ask Merrick (0.00 / 0)
if we can see that 401K statement of his mothers he's been talking about to the dead tree press .You see,as a public school teacher covered by a pension Merricks mother is not eligable to have had a 401K.

I think  Merrick may well already be making shit  up on his first day as a candidate which means to me that he would be a much better fit in the Republican Party.
