Dodd Agrees to Ask Fed to Name Names

by: Scarce

Sun May 10, 2009 at 18:58:11 PM EDT

Jane over at Firedoglake posted this video a couple of days ago in reference to a video Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) posted earlier this year, asking where the money was going. Even last week a Federal Reserve Inspector General couldn't --or wouldn't-- say.

As Jane wrote:

One of the things we discussed was the refusal of Fed Vice Chair Donald Kohn to answer Alan Grayson's question in a House Financial Services hearing when the Florida Representative asked him to name the banks that the Fed was lending to. Bloomberg estimates that the US government and the Fed have now lent, spent or committed $12.8 trillion dollars in financial rescue, up 73% from November, when they estimated the amount to be $7.4 trillion.

Let me see if I got this right (0.00 / 0)
While Bloggers have been posing questions to Sen. Dodd on subjects like Torture and the role of transperency in the Bailout the Hartford Courant has decided to hand its pages over to Three time DUI convicted Republican State Chairman Chris Healy to run a smear campaign on Sen Dodd and now even Dodds Wife.

My Prediction,

In 2010 Sen Dodd will be reelected rather easily and the Hartford Courant will cease to exist.

PS- I couldn't help but laugh when I watched "the Real Story Sunday.Watching the  B team  "journalists" left at the Courant throw their former editors under the bus and their obbvious willingness to say anything in order to save their jobs showed what's left of the Courant deserves the slow painful death it's going through.

Dodd's answers were horrible (4.00 / 2)
Jane was absolutely right. Congress (and the public) has the right to know where that money is going, and Congress has the right and the duty to regulate the Fed. Dodd reluctantly agreed to ask the Fed to name the banks who received $12.8 trillion of public money! WTF? That's MY MONEY -- AND YOURS!

And Dodd IS THE ONE WHO SHOULD BE MAKING THIS ARGUMENT! As should every CT Congressman.

A few things struck me about this interview:

1. Dodd and Congress are so wrapped up in the banking industry's mindset that, when they sit down with people like Jane who present rational arguments against the banks' position, these Congressmen look foolish trying to defend it.

2. It's great to see Dodd sitting down with bloggers to hear an opposing point of view -- and to get an understanding of what our expectations are.

3. Dodd and the rest of Congress have a limited amount of time to prove that they can crawl out of the banking industry's pocket. They better get busy. A vote for Simmons may end up being a de facto vote for term limits -- or a way to send a message to other Democrats, especially folks like Chuck Schumer and other members of the Senate Finance Committee, that they need to change.

I hope Dodd doesn't make the mistake (0.00 / 0)
of taking his base for granted.

I know his need for funds from corporate America has him bridled and playing it safe. But Dodd needs to realize rank-and-file Democrats are going to have a choice next winter.

Either:
A. On Dodd's behalf we have this long drawn-out war against the CT GOP in 2010. Or,

B. We draft Blumenthal or Bysiewicz, then we wipe the floor with Chris Healy and Rockin' Rob Simmons.

Dodd needs to deliver. And he better not get in bed with Lieberpuke.
