Teabagging follies

Teabag_01

I took the trip up to Hartford to see the Radical Right-Wing Lovefest Tea Party at the State Capitol and here are some observations:

  • People had no problem carrying arond disturbing signs like the one at the top of this post.

  • Sponsors proclaiming that the Capitol Police estimated that there were 5,000 people in attendance when the real number was 3,000.

  • Me and my daughter probably accounted for the total percentage of minorities at this so-called "event."

  • Most people I talked to were HARDCORE supporters of the policies of George Bush...you remember, the guy who a.) ran this country into a record deficit faster than any other president, b). screwed up the economy for a generation and , c) offered record amounts of tax breaks to the rich while the middle-class (a.k.a. most of those in attendace at the event) and poor paid the price.

  • Most of those same people STILL think that President Obama is either a) a Muslim, b) not born in the United States c) a and b or d). a threat to their way of life.

  • GOP mouthpiece Chris Healy, Rob Simmons, Minority Leader John McKinney and the anti-gay homophobic, State Senator Mike McLachlan made their presence known.

All in all, although the organizers of this "event" proclaimed that this was a non-partisan event, one could CLEARLY see that this was not the case.

More photos from the teabagging follies are below the fold...share your experiences from today.

there is so much wrong with these images (0.00 / 0)
I'm not sure where to start

how many of these people can actually tell you what socialism is?

I missed morning tea in new milford.. I was busy doing volunteer work. Or does donating my time and efforts to a cause without pay for the greater good make me a communist?

Tea Parties in 50 states (0.00 / 0)
Whether you agree or disagree with the idea that too much spending and too much change is coming too fast, the attendees have a right to assemble and protest. Average American workers attended where I was and spoke on the microphone about the need for reading before signing and the need for more respect for the military and other issues of concern. Stimulus is sudden and necessary, not pork. That was another theme.

The point is that law abiding and sincere protest happened. That is not being reported by many stations.

Labeling people radical who have concerns about the departure from the Constitution - our contract with our fellow Americans, and list of what govt can do - and the plans to support nearly 50% of the nation who do not pay taxes then we truly are in trouble.

Yes, there is a place for charity.
But punishing success and supporting those who don't work although they can is crazy.

If you feel I am radical, that's your right.
And it is my right to feel we are getting much too far away from the founding rules that made this country and it's economy the best in the world before congress got involved.

You're right (4.00 / 2)
Not only do I think you're radical, but like most of those in attendance who:
  • a). probably earn less than $200,000 a year,
  • b) would get a tax cut under Obama's plan, and
  • c) were silent under eight years of the previous administration who created the disaster we're presently dealing with,

I also think that you're completely out-of-touch with reality of the situation.

And if they were retired (4.00 / 1)
probably receive Medicare and Social Security - government programs (Socialist).

Nobody here said these folks didn't have every right (4.00 / 3)
in the world to make idiots of themselves just like you continue to do here.As a matter of fact I'm positive almost everyone here would fight and die to assure you that right.

I see this as what is commonly reffered to on Wall St. as a Dead Cat Bounce and the fact that this gave a majority of Americans to see just how truly stupid the right wing is their rightful place as a tiny minority is assured at least for the next 10 years or so.

[ Parent ]
my impression (0.00 / 0)
is that while retired yes / retired eyes is incorrect in a lot of his/her assumptions, at least he/she is genuinely pretty earnest, unlike a bunch of the crew you tend to see elsewhere in the local blogosphere.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the sense that an actual discussion with RE would yield something of value. Just sayin.

disaster (0.00 / 0)
Much of the disaster began when the great society paid welfare only to one parent families so dad's left the picture, and welfare became better than working.
It wasn't help, it destroyed poor families.
Then we have to be what is called by some fair- that everyone has a right to have a mortgaged home whether they can pay it of not.
Next we have the govt threatening banks to make the bad mortgages.
Where have you been?
The previous administration went 9 times to congress to get a handle on these bad loans.
So now the economy is in trouble from regulation, not needing regulation.

Govt can not provide growth jobs, only temp jobs. Business expansion is the way to go. in Connecticut 90+ % of businesses employ 9 or fewer.

If you believe that grabbing money everywhere and putting it into new programs to grow nothing but more needy, then you are the radical. Making more and more people dependent on govt is not the way to improve the country. Helping citizens make their own way to success will strenghthen the country.

What is your reality?

like I said above (4.00 / 1)
we're fine if you want to come here and prove you're an idiot.

How about YOU start refusing those socialiast social security checks and that soialist medicare.

I don't have the time, energy or inclination to even try to disabuse you of the stupidity Fox News obviously infused your tiny brain with that is in the comment above.

anger and name calling is not necessary. (0.00 / 0)
First I do not participate in either social security or medicare.

It is amazing what assumptions you make and how angry you are that groups got together. Why is that I wonder.

Certainly you may think as you wish, that everyone who disagrees are idiots. You may forget that some of us were here it the 1960s as adults. There seems to be some revisionist history these days.

I wish you good luck and please keep your eyes and ears open. It may not be long until you start to see change that concerns you as well.

I just don't get it (0.00 / 0)
A member of the bottom 98% supporting the top 2% against the bottom 98%.If you do not collect social security (John McCain does), will you turn it down when you are eligible?  I suspect not, because unlike all those "other" people, you earned it and how dare they inconvenience your Great White American Dream by being alive?

You aren't fooling anybody here with your code talk. I think you will find a more sympathetic audience at CTLP.

LOL TROLL (0.00 / 0)
make me laugh some more

it's been a long day I need a good chuckle

were you out teabagging today? maybe that's why you're so cranky

You are BEYOND out of touch (4.00 / 1)
Press play and learn...

[ Parent ]
great video (0.00 / 0)
Watching Olbermann point out how Congress and the Bush Administration disastrously deregulated financial services, it makes one thing perfectly clear: Congress really needs to fix the problem. They have to enact new laws re-regulating the industry. Congress can't leave it up to Geithner and Bernake, who really don't seem interested in meaningful reform. If they were, the whole TARP program would be more transparent.

Although Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress played a big role in creating this deregulation mess, many Democrats did too, and it's now the Democratic Congress's job to fix the problem.

[ Parent ]
Assuming you are not pulling our leg.. (4.00 / 1)
Much of the disaster began when the great society paid welfare only to one parent families so dad's left the picture, and welfare became better than working.
It wasn't help, it destroyed poor families.

This has not been public policy since the mid-90's.  One of the reason the welfare reforms worked was Bill Clinton created an environment that created 23 million jobs.

Then we have to be what is called by some fair- that everyone has a right to have a mortgaged home whether they can pay it of not.
Next we have the govt threatening banks to make the bad mortgages
.

Nobody forced the banks to make these mortgages they did it because they wanted to make quick money.  They fooled people into thinking they were looking out for there interests because in the past no one would every have issued those loans.  But because they could sell the loans to investors they really did not care if they were any good.

The previous administration went 9 times to congress to get a handle on these bad loans.

I doubt this is true.  George Bush was proud of his ownership society and touted it at the 2004 convention.  My question is why couldn't George pass this between 2002 and 2006 given his majorities in the Senate and House.  I would appreciate a link verifying your assertion.

Govt can not provide growth jobs, only temp jobs. Business expansion is the way to go. in Connecticut 90+ % of businesses employ 9 or fewer.

Given the number of jobs at Electric Boat, Sikorsky and United Technology spent on defense spending I have to believe it is having an impact on the state.  BTW there are plenty of teachers that have had 30 year careers.  I agree with your small business statistics and as a former small business person the biggest obstacle to getting good people was the lack of a good health plan.  It is very difficult to get a good plan when you are starting up due to the bureaucrats in our insurance industry,

If you believe that grabbing money everywhere and putting it into new programs to grow nothing but more needy, then you are the radical. Making more and more people dependent on govt is not the way to improve the country. Helping citizens make their own way to success will strengthen the country.

I guess we will have to disagree.  I like the idea of roads that are paved, a military that is strong, an educated workforce,a healthy people (given we pay more than anyone else in the world for the health care I would like it to be better rated than Estonia), and I would like regulation that makes capitalism honest.

I mean there are 4 umpires on the baseball field when there are only 10-13 players on the field at anyone time.  It seems like if it takes 30-40% workforce to regulate a baseball game than we could devote 0.25% or our workforce to regulate the world economy to prevent it from collapsing from fraud or poisoning our food.

What is your reality?

I suggest you stick around and read what you find here.  See if it is fact based versus rage based reality.  Think.

New Haven Teabagging (4.00 / 1)
I had the great honor to attend the Long Wharf rally. I left disturbed at the amount of teenage girls holding "teabagging" signs. Is this even legal? My entire account is on my blog, including email correspondence with Republicans organizers insisting there were 2000 present (I was there. If it topped 350, I don't know where they were. I think they counted attendance like Mormons count membership. Abe Lincoln might have been there).

reaction to gatherings (0.00 / 0)
and so i see that the major focus of reaction is on denigrating anyone who is not in a particular group.

one reason i posted was to see the range of reactions. I admit to being disappointed in both the assumptions and boyish focus. apparently there is a them and us mentality, not an individual freedom thought.

allowing a serious discussion or getting opinions on the table is not what this spot is about. For those who see themselves a cut above, I'd review that now and then.

every person who seems to disagree may not be as strange as you portray them. your ship is nearing the rocks and I wish you the best in decisions you make for yourself.

(FYI- not everyone is eligible for social security. some of us pay our own pensions with no employer $$$ and pay our own full insurance premiums at retirement. not rich, just not eligible.) Plan ahead. Save for the proverbial rainy day.

Boy you 'wingers whine a lot! (0.00 / 0)
Why don't you toughen up a bit before you again come-a-trolling?

you still push the idea that people who do not hare your opinion should not post...

sad but interesting.

I just wish you wouldn't whine so much.

Right-wing bloggers are such sensitive wimps...

And the working poor can just die in the streets, right? (4.00 / 1)
You sure seem proud of yourself that you were able to plan wisely and enrich insurance companies while thumbing your nose at your fellow human beings that didn't plan, a true black and white, or should I say red and white conservative.

You will find no converts here, so once again I suggest that you should spend more time over at CTLP.
