Below is an e-mail action alert that went out Thursday. If you want to be the first to hear about upcoming actions and events, sign up for CCAG Action Alerts here.

CCAG Action Alert

On Friday January 23, Senator Chris Dodd is coming to East Hartford because he wants to hear first hand from the people of Connecticut about their views and ideas for reforming our nation's health care system.

Will you join us at Goodwin College to tell Senator Dodd what a solution to the health care crisis should look like?

Representative John Larson will also be joining the discussion and hearing your voices on Friday. Both he and Senator Dodd will carry your words and ideas back with them to Congress. This is your chance to influence two of our nation's leaders as they work on health care reform.

Goodwin College River Campus, 8:30 AM, East Hartford - JOIN US!

This is Precious... (0.00 / 0)
How could anyone pass up the chance to see Sen. Dodd look all concerned about health care and cock his head as he listens attentively to our concerns. What a crock of bullshit.

The issue of millions of our fellow citizens being without health care has been out there for decades, and yet the rolls of the uninsured keeps growing. The poor and the working poor need action by our "representatives", rather than forums designed more for reelection purposes, than for ameliorating the travesty of health care in this country.

Mark Pazniokas covered this event, and these lines kind of stuck out at me:

Dodd said during his introduction that he was seeking reforms that provided universal coverage, cut costs and prevented disease. In an interview later, he made clear another condition:

Not putting the insurance industry out of business.

"I hear people talking about a single-payer plan and the like," Dodd said. "That isn't going to happen. It's going to be a combination of public, private."

Dodd's goal should be to develop a system that covers the most amount of people for the least amount of money. Everyone should have access to a basic level of comprehensive coverage. Let the insurance industry provide coverage over and above this basic level.

When you see this video, you get an idea of what basic coverage might look like and just how many people in the U.S. don't have it:

That video was just the first part of the BBC's report. You can see the rest of it here.
