Jim Himes and the rest of the Connecticut House contingent get sworn in today. Himes was also notified that he won a spot on the financial services committee. Also a big day for "Rep. John Larson, the new chairman of the Democratic caucus, and Rep. Rosa DeLauro, co-chair of the steering and policy committee (in addition to her spot on appropriations.)"

... the FAA flight pattern issue is one of the few things that he could have delivered to Shays' base in the western half of the district -- there seem to be a lot of people who could care less about what the Federal government does so long as they stop those damnable planes from flying overhead.

I know that Financial Services is a great place from which to raise campaign cash, but I'd bet that there are more dollars to be had from "FAA redesign" opponents in-district than hedge fund dudes nationwide.

The transportation issues the district faces really do require a Federal response (especially since most of the issues are multi-state issues), and to my view, the FAA thing is relatively minor by comparison. But the activists attached to that issue are the most energetic and organized of any group in the area, and I doubt they will be interested in "but I tried to get on Transportation too" as an excuse if Jim isn't able to get that redesign stopped.
