While Paper News Folds, CT News Junkie Writes On

While the Journal Register, which owns a gazillion local newspapers, tabloids, and specialty magazines, shuts down various publications around the state (see the always thorough and timely New Haven Independent for full report), Christine Stuart does a good amount of real journalism from Hartford. Luckily, she has been picked up by the New York Times for a few gigs.

The latest is appearing in tomorrows paper inside the woefully depleted "Connecticut ...and the Region" section.

Democrats Vent Against Lieberman
By CHRISTINE STUART

This is a very accurate and well-written account of the State Central Committee meeting on Wednesday night, where the weak-kneed hacks of the CT Democratic Party bob, weave, duck, and cover on the Joe LieberCrap issue once again.

You can read it today online and pretend it is Sunday already.

What you don't get in the on-line version is the graphics and layout. That is why I like Dead Tree Art(icles). The sub-header pops on the printed version.

Anger against a senator who 'rode the wrong horse.'

...as in FU Joe, and the horse you rode in on.

Broken models (0.00 / 0)
Iraq can serve as an anchor of stability in the region, a counter to Iranian hegemony and a model of democracy for the Middle East.

newspapers in England ... (4.00 / 1)
... reporting on the other model of "democracy" in the Middle East:

Impoverished Palestinians on the Gaza Strip are being forced to scavenge for food on rubbish dumps to survive as Israel's economic blockade risks causing irreversible damage, according to international observers. [...]

The deteriorating conditions inside Gaza emerged as Tony Blair, Middle East envoy for the Quartet - US, Russia, the UN and the EU - warned explicitly yesterday that Israel's policy of economic blockade, which had been imposed a year and a half ago when Hamas took power on the Gaza Strip, was reinforcing rather than undermining the party's hold on power. [...]

"The present situation is not harming Hamas in Gaza but it is harming the people," Blair said yesterday. Calling for a change in policy over Gaza, he added: "I don't think that the current situation is sustainable; I think most people who would analyse it think the same."

Picture matches the vote? (0.00 / 0)
Are you sure the picture showing members voting actually matches the caption "A STAND: Democratic State Central Committee members who agreed to send a letter to Senator Joseph I. Lieberman."?

Front row is Jim Throwe holding up his hand. I know he wanted Liberman censured and is livid with both Blondin and Olson for the way the meeting turned out.

vote to take the measure off the table (0.00 / 0)
You can tell because Blondin (in bright green at the back of the room) moved up to the front immediately following this vote, and did not return for the remainder of the meeting.

Also, Throwe was one of the two votes against the letter, but I didn't get his name before. The other was Brian Anderson.

One other funny thing is that this picture caught the two ladies in front of Judy Russo voting aye before she made them take their hands down. "We don't want the resolution! You have to vote no!" And so they did. I really hope Congress doesn't work that way.
