Dem Convention Schedule Shocker

by: BranfordBoy

Tue May 02, 2006 at 14:08:30 PM EDT

DiNardo has spoken:

The Democratic State Convention will convene on Friday night the 19th at 6 p.m. for ... drum roll please ... the endorsement of candidates for the United States Senate!

I must say, this is a major surprise. This means that Lamont delegates will know going into the second session on Saturday, how DeStefano, Malloy and the New Haven and Stamford delegations have voted for Senator. The expectation is that Lamont supporters will give their gubernatorial votes to whichever candidate does the most for Ned.

Since DiNardo is a known Lieberman supporter, the question is why things have been set up this way. If there's an advantage for Joe in this arrangement, I'll be damned if I can figure it out.

One theory I've heard is that this could mean that Joe has let it be known to Nancy that he'll be history before the convention starts, rendering the Senate nomination moot. This way, Lamont's ascendency will be old news by Sunday, when the gubernatorial candidates will garner all the front-page headlines.

What say you?

He learns from the Dark Lord (0.00 / 0)
Lieberman has learned from the Sith Lord Bush that the best time to release news that you don't want picked up is Friday night. As the appentice he is following the Sith Lords lead and is trying to make sure that any Lamont win does not get picked up in the papers (or worse yet the Sunday talk show circut).

(okay, my six year old and I have been watching the entire Star Wars series... what can I say, this administration is so, so, Empire-like, and Lieberman seems to be learning tricks from the master)

The question is not what you are, we already determined that, we are now negotiating price.

I think (0.00 / 0)
that they want to give the Lamont people as little time to lobby as possible.

The delegates will be arriving on Friday and whisked into the Convention Hall almost as soon as they arrive.

Maybe it is possible they want to Give Lieberman the chance to address delegates (0.00 / 0)
He is observes the Sabbath which begins at Sundown on Friday, maybe by holding it at Six he can Address the delegates before hand.

I hope so (0.00 / 0)
I didn't get a chance to BOO Lieberman at the JJB dinner and I feel cheated.

[ Parent ]
I won't be there (0.00 / 0)
so let out a few BOOs for me, too.

Also a hiss or two.

Maybe a Bronx cheer?

I really don't believe that Joe is going to bow out (0.00 / 0)

The only chance of Joe not being in the primary is if he's offered Rumy's job by Bush. This information according to a very reliable informant.

Will Joe Lieberman be in the primary August 8th?

McCain not Lieberman (0.00 / 0)
I heard a rumour that John McCain is in line for the Sec of Defense position. See http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/04/28/opinion/main1558754.shtml

This is would explain why McCain has been so profusely kissing Bush's bum lately. It would also explain why he's tried to strengthen ties with Bush's fundamentalist base by embracing Jerry Falwell. http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/Politics/story?id=1843506&page=1

McCain knows these guys are unscrupulous...he could only be kissing up to them because he expects some kind of huge political favor in return.

It could be that Malloy & DeStefano cut a deal (0.00 / 0)
not to let us wedge them, and to deliver equal %'s of delegates to Lieberman?

It could be we are reading too much into this. Certainly, it's hard to game.

Does anyone think Joe is going to make a last try to keep Lamont from getting his 15%?

Even if he succeeds (0.00 / 0)
there's always the petitions.

[ Parent ]
maybe they're hoping we won't get the word? (4.00 / 1)
I'm a delegate, and didn't know this until coming here.  I thought it was just all day the 20th.  So maybe they were hoping we wouldn't show up until Saturday morning and the party brass could tell us, "oh, so sorry..."

Fat chance.  Now I'll plan to show up early on Friday.  If nothing's happening I can always hit the streets of Hartford with my Lamont petition.

Check your mail (0.00 / 0)
All delegates should be getting word on this. The packets were starting to be delivered on the Shoreline today.

DeStefano made a few veiled comments about Lamont (0.00 / 0)
At a speech yesterday at Southern Connecticut State University, he mention several times the importance of having choice in elections. Although it might have been coincidence.

Social libertarian.

There is a pre-convention delegate party being planned . . . (0.00 / 0)
So all Ned delegates should come and join the festivities.  It will be announced as the convention nears . ..
