Mukasey names CT's Nora Dannehy to investigate DOJ firings

by: Scarce

Mon Sep 29, 2008 at 11:53:19 AM EDT

WASHINGTON - Attorney General Michael Mukasey appointed a prosecutor Monday to pursue possible criminal charges against Republicans who were involved in the controversial firings of U.S. attorneys.

His move follows the leading recommendation of a Justice Department investigation that harshly criticized Bush administration officials, members of Congress and their aides for the ousters, which were seen by many as politically motivated.

Results of the investigation were made public Monday. The 300-page report singled out the removal of U.S. Attorney David Iglesias of New Mexico - among nine prosecutors who were fired - as the most troubling.

The US Attorney firings were political and there should be prosecutions.

Ms. Dannehy seems to prosecute, and not prosecute, for political excuses. So, her investigation and/or prosecution is not going to be clean either.

We need a Private Attorney General Bill passed to address the problem of public corruption to shepherd evidence to the grand juries when other officials drop the ball.

A bill proposed by Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison, called the private attorney general bill would address the illegal acts committed in firing the US Attorney and would have help prevent the current financial crisis by having the teeth to go after the White Collar criminals in the FDIC and in the financial markets.

What is wrong? Answer: google "Judencia"

Kevin O'Connor replacement, here's her bio (0.00 / 0)
On April 4, 2008, Nora R. Dannehy became Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut upon the resignation of United States Attorney Kevin J. O'Connor, who currently serves as Associate Attorney General of the United States. Ms. Dannehy has been an Assistant United States Attorney in the Office for 17 years, most recently serving as Deputy United States Attorney.

The United States Attorney's Office is charged with enforcing federal criminal laws in Connecticut, and with representing the federal government in civil litigation in the District. As Acting United States Attorney, Ms. Dannehy supervises a staff of approximately 60 Assistant United States Attorneys and approximately 50 staff members at offices in New Haven, Hartford and Bridgeport.

As an Assistant United State Attorney, Ms. Dannehy specialized in the prosecution of complex white collar and public corruption cases. She also served as the Professional Responsibility Officer for the District.

Prior to her service with the Department of Justice, Ms. Dannehy was an associate with the law firm of Day, Berry & Howard from 1988 to 1991. From 1986 to 1988, Ms. Dannehy served as a law clerk to Senior United States District Judge T. Emmet Clarie.

Ms. Dannehy graduated from Harvard Law School in 1986 and from Wellesley College in 1983.

Ms. Dannehy is the 49th United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and the first woman to hold the position in the history of the Office, which was established in 1789.

What Happened To O'Conner? (0.00 / 0)
I remember back when John Conyers had comments on him that made it seem like just another whitewash.

Is this new appointment by the Bush regime going to be any different?

She specializes in "complex white collar crime" issues.

She is from CT, where many of the "complex white collar crimes" may be worth investigation quite shortly.

What has her position and expertise been in white collar crime on Wall ST?

And will her appointment timing act to clear the way for a new prosecutor who will be kinder to CT Wall Streeters who may have committed or may stand accused of having committed financial industry related white collar crimes?

Seems like obvious target would be hedge funds (0.00 / 0)
Hedge funds are largely based in CT (Greenwich area has many), so any related investigations would seem like they could involve a CT US District Attorney.

Can anyone explain whether the illegal but SEC overlooked/tolerated and not prosecuted  practice of naked short selling (selling stocks short but never completing the actual transfer of stocks) might become a focus of hedge fund investigation soon?
