Old Home Week at the Big Tent

by: Scarce

Wed Aug 27, 2008 at 15:15:04 PM EDT

Jane over at Firedoglake sends this video of her, Markos Moulitsas (DailyKos) and Ned Lamont givnig their respective takes on the Lieberman situation.

Old Home Week -- Ned Lamont stopped  by the Big Tent.  He, Markos and I chatted about the fact that Joe Lieberman hasn't changed, he's still the same backstabbing asshole he always was but at least he doesn't get to call himself a Democrat since we KICKED HIM OUT OF THE PARTY.

Roll Call Vote CT: 38 Obama ; 21 Clinton (0.00 / 0)
Connecticut; the Constitution State, home of the fiercest defender of our Constitution, U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman Chris Dodd

38 votes for Obama, 21 for Clinton.

..via DailyKos.

By my reckoning, that is the highest vote by percentage of any state for Clinton.

Kind of weird there... (0.00 / 0)
Did someone miss the memo?

Massachusetts also (0.00 / 0)
52 for Hillary Clinton, 65 for Obama.

New Jersey and New Hampshire seemed more clued in, casting all their votes for Obama. Which to my conspiracy-laden mind suggests they knew what was coming with the acclamation call by Hillary Clinton.

I wouldn't fret too much about the numbers here. It's the end result which tells the real story. IMHO.

Both think John McCain will choose Joe Lieberman for VP, if he can get away with it.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Reports of strong support within John McCain's presidential campaign for Independent Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman as the Republican candidate for vice president are not a fairy tale. Influential McCain backers, plus McCain himself, would pick the pro-choice liberal from Connecticut if they thought they could get away with it.

But they can't get away with it -- and this has been made clear to McCain by none other than Joe Lieberman himself.

Lieberman surely doesn't know that much about Republican politics, but he has close Republican friends. One of them prevailed on Lieberman to tell McCain that a McCain-Lieberman ticket would be a disaster for all concerned, and especially for the GOP.

Actually, Lieberman is a heroic figure among Republicans for having risked his Senate seat to support President George W. Bush's war policy. But aside from the war, he votes the straight liberal line, including pro-choice on abortion. Lieberman's Republican friend told him that the Republicans would leave Minnesota in a state of disarray with a McCain-Lieberman ticket, alienating social conservatives who now make up the core of Republican voters.

The theme of the GOP Convention is (0.00 / 0)
"Country First", which sounds like an excuse for a Lieberman V-P.

Why would McCain go right, when the Republican Party and George Bush are a drowning weight around his neck?

Instead he'll play his moderate and maverick cards, and if you want to see what Republicans will do, just look to the Lieberman-Lamont contest here in Connecticut, where Republicans held their noses en masse, and dutifully voted for what they saw as the lesser of two evils.

Never mind (0.00 / 0)
that their campaign floated another republican name as VP that was pro-choice. They were, possibly, testing the waters for a Lieberman choice.
