Greenwich Post Article Exposes Greenwich Time/Stamford Advocate For Sarah Littman Firing

Greenwich Post (the only non-MediaNews Group publication in the town of Greenwich and Stamford) came out with an article whacking Greenwich Time for their firing of popular progressive columnist Sarah Littman last week.

The article states:

Greenwich progressives are demanding Sarah Littman get her job back after she was abruptly terminated last week as a Greenwich Time columnist.

Ms. Littman, a children's book author who had been contributing to the paper since 2001, had been a regular columnist since 2003. Readers of her column said her departure came as a shock. She said she was fired after she wrote a column sharply criticizing congressional candidate and Greenwich resident Lee Whitnum.

Rather than the bogus reason of comprising the newspaper's integrity, Littman said:

...she feels the reason for her dismissal goes beyond this particular column. She said people at the paper knew long before she wrote the column that she had held the event for Mr. Himes and that it reflected her desire to remove her point of view from the paper.

Sounds like a set-up to me.  And according to Sarah:

"I find all of this very strange."

She later added,
"There's a part of me that feels this was in the works for some time and Lee just gave them the ammunition they needed to be able to lower the boom."

The article goes on to point out that Greenwich Time/Stamford Advocate management are hiding under their tables, figuratively speaking:

When reached for comment, the Time's managing editor, Jim Zebora, said he didn't want to get into the specifics surrounding Ms. Littman's termination.

"We consider this a personnel issue and we are not at liberty to discuss it," Mr. Zebora said.

It's a "personnel issue"?  Who believes that?!

Frank Farricker, the Democratic candidate for first selectman last year, said he personally believed that a select few people had convinced Mr. Dunster to fire her "just because they didn't like what she had to say."

Way to go Frank!!!

The article goes on to mention that

"Letter-writing campaigns are under way to get Ms. Littman, who will continue blogging at her site, Saramerica.livejournal.com, her job back, and she said she would consider returning if asked.

For those of you who have not written to give them a piece of your mind and to demand that this right-wing hit attempt be reversed, here are the email addresses:

A friend was interviewed for a front page Greenwich Time article (0.00 / 0)
the other day. The reporter confided to her that when the wiffle ball field was torn down, it was done by day laborers. He didn't put it in his article, however.

So, does this mean that their fact articles are opinion, and opinion articles are fact?

I'm so confused.

Greenwich is a small town, really.

The democratic process is hurting (0.00 / 0)
I find it interesting that shortly after the firing of Sarah, Greenwich Time ran this article about the apparent lack of interest in State Legislative races:

The democratic process is hurting

I posted a comment suggesting that perhaps some of the reason that there is so little interest in State Legislative races is that the newspapers in the State have been cutting the number of reporters covering events in Hartford, and even worse, firing columnists who express opinions contrary to those of the editors.

For some reason, however, that comment never made it to their site. Hmm....

There isn't room for the truth in the GT (0.00 / 0)
That would only detract from their incessant agenda, which apparently is to get Chris Shays reelected.

Those guys aren't very subtle about it, either.
